A walk in the snow............

Do you enjoy long walks? I do - I really find it a great stress reliever, especially with my dog, who is a Golden Retriever (hey, that rhymes - I'm a poet and don't know it!). Anyway, I digress, back to the topic. Ah yes, walking...we're out every morning early, without fail winter summer, hot cold wet or dry, covering three to five miles a day. We live in Toronto, and usually get some pretty cold winters, but this year it was quite mild up till the last few weeks. Quite chilly now though, with some snow at last......... Last Sunday morning we set out as usual. It was about minus 15 degrees C, sharp but sunny, with a fresh fall of overnight snow - absolutely beautiful. It's amazing how snow transforms everything, making the familiar so strange and magical, especially in the early morn before it gets mashed up with the rush hour traffic............. We cut across the school soccer field as usual, and I let Chester off-leash - how he loves to romp in the snow! He's an old dog of 13 years, but in the snow he thinks he's a 2 year old, and goes mad, thrashing and rolling, and joyfully belting round in circles............ As we made our way, our footsteps crunched on the virgin whiteness, making a sound like walking on potato chips. 'Twas so nice, quiet and peaceful, man and dog, enjoying each other's company.............something very special. Unfortunately, sooner or later the world always intervenes doesn't it? Nevertheless, it's moments like this that keep us sane, I think.............

Hi! And thanks for your response. I see you live in India, so, as you say, snow is a no-show as far as you're concerned! We haven't had as much of the white stuff as usual this year - but there's still plenty of time before Spring...... Yes, it is nice to walk in it - but not so nice when I have to shovel it to get out of my driveway! Thanks again and all the best.

I so agree with you (and btw.. i love the way you write;)) I live in a small town in Northern BC Canada and the best river fishing river in N.A is a simple 15 minute walk from my front door.. nothing makes me feel so good as just taking a walk and if I can find a sitter and walk by myself I am so destressed by the time I get home but even if I take my children we have such a good time that everyone feels better when we get home.. and if we take the long way they'll be so tired when we get home that everyone is guaranteed a good night sleep.

Hi, and thanks for your nice compliment:) I tend to write the way I talk, which means sometimes it comes out ok, and sometimes it's gobbledegook! Sounds nice where you live - my best to your children. must go - maybe we can talk again :).
