Date night with my two year old

Ok, so it wasn't a "date" I suppose, but it was great fun and I wanted to share it and see if you guys had any ideas for other such activities. I was digging around in my cupboards making room to put something away, when I found my old popcorn popper. You know, the hot air kind that has a butter cup on top to melt butter while your popcorn is popping? So, I got to thinking, man, my two year old would love to watch the popcorn pop, and then we could eat it together and have some Mommy and son time. So, that's what I did. I wish I would have thought to have a camera handy when it started popping. He thought that was just about the coolest thing he'd ever seen. That laugh will ring out in my head for years to come. I explained to him what was happening with the popcorn (it's never to early to homeschool ;) ) and then finished melting the butter in the microwave, all the while explaining how butter when it melts becomes a liquid. We poured it on the popcorn and shook it all up with a little salt and sat on the couch with it. I gave each of us a napkin, which was very important to him, he really liked that. He delighted more in pulling out the popcorn one at a time and putting them on the napkin than actually eating them. It was great! It was a wonderful way to spend one on one time with my little man and he loved it. Anyone have some other ideas like this to do with your kids?

awww.. i remember my kids discovering new stuff.. i can just imagine the fun you two had... my thing with my kids ( i don't think at 2 but probably about 4) was homemade noodles.. i'd make up the pasta dough and i'd give them little fisher price knifes and cookie cutters (and cups and jars and all sorts of goodies) and they got to create the noodles that we would be having for dinner.. they always got a kick out of that.. and they were guaranteed to it it because they created it ;) everybody was happy...

That sounds absolutely wonderful! That's totally the kind of response I was hoping to get. I love it when I hear of parents being creative and doing stuff like this with their kids. Thanks so much for your response, I will definitely try that. I can just imagine what a kick a kid would get out of that. Did you get pictures? ;)
