If you have children, what is the story behind their names? I LOVE to hear how people come up with names whether they are a different type of name or old fashioned names. I am always so curious as to why and how people come up with these names for their kids. If you don't have a child, do you have a name picked out? If so, what is it and why? Here is my story... I was told I would never have children. (Long story so I won't go into it all)...anyhow, I have always wanted kids and I always wanted a boy first and foremost. When I found out I was pregnant, I was elated! Then, found out it was a boy! LOL Started looking in baby name books and on line and couldn't find anything I liked. I wanted something different and unique. I found a list of Native American names online and looked thru and saw the name "CHAYTON". It means Falcon...the Sioux Indians believe that falcons carry their dreams. I thought this fit perfectly since my dream was always wanting a baby and a boy. WE decided his middle name would be DANIEL since that is my husband's name. With my daughter, it was pretty funny how that happened. We couldn't decide on anything. I thought of things more oldfashioned like "annamaria" and all, but I really wanted a more original name and I wanted to stick with the Native American thing. I LOVE Native American EVERYTHING..their art, their literature, names, etc. anyhow, I couldn't find a Native American name that I liked except "CHEYENNE", but that is so common. My husband was watching TV one day and saw the name "GYLLIAN" (we pronounce it G like goat). I loved it and we decided on that. We put her middle name as CHEYENNE to stay with the Native American thing that I love so much. So, my kids are CHAYTON DANIEL and GYLLIAN CHEYENNE Tell me about your kids.

My children have 2 different fathers. Each of whom I was married to. I am so untraditional, that I felt since I had the joy of carrying them inside of me, that the fathers should get to name them. My first husband came up with the name Craig without my help. But my second husband wanted my input. So I gave him a list of names that I preferred, and he chose Katie Jo, from them. The mother gets most of the glory. I wanted to share.

That is sweet of you. I let my husband come up with the name for the boy, if that was what we had. We didn't know until after the birth, we wanted to be surprised. Anyways, he came up with Logan (because he loves the movie Logan's Run) Mitchell (because he thought it sounded good with Logan). I would have been happy with the name if we had, had a boy but I ma really glad I had a girl since I had my name since I was about 10.

You chose some great names for your children and put much thought into it. With my first we picked out 2 names, one boy and one girl. My ex wanted the first born son to be named after him. Easy, no brainer. The girls name we decided on was Rachel. Close to my due date he decided that there were too many people in his family with that name. I then chose to name my daughter after my best friend. The second born was baby girl for about 3 days, until my sister suggested a name for her. My ex wanted to name her Sparkle. She can thank me for choosing my sister's suggested name. The twins were boys. The first born was named after his father and the second took a name that we agreed on. I do not wish to post their actual names, but wanted to share with you.

I never really wanted kids but I still had a name for a girl. I saw a movie when I was about 10 years old and there was little girl in it who I thought was just the cutest thing. her name was Blythe, and I just fell in love with the name. That name just stuck with me and when I was a little older I looked up the meaning and found it meant happiness. It was then and there that I decided if I ever had a daughter I would name her Blythe. So I ended up having a little girl, who by the way is the absolute best thing in my life. Anyways, the first name was a no brainer, so we thoguht about a middle name. I really wanted to honor my father so we took his middle name of Dean and added an 'a' to make it femine and viola, my daughter is Blythe Deana. I don't have any story for a boy name so it is a good thing I didn't have a boy. For the most part, my daughter lives up to her name, and is generally a very happy person.
