It is really cold here in southern indiana and our heat is natural gas and has not shut off in 2 days. Our heat bill we just got was for 476.00!! So it will no doubt be even higher this month. How high are your heating bills and how do you plan on surviving this cold blast??

wow that was a huge bill, mine is about £30 a month for my gas. I have thought about renewable energy like solar or wind power but they are too expensive at the moment. Our energy bills are set to rise even more so I might have to do it in the future, have you considered doing that too?

We have a solar and wind powered home, it sure would be good to be back in that house. We would be toasty and not worrying about the bills like now. Our worked beautifully!!!

We're not that far from where you are, and I recall last winter, we got hit with 2 months at the same time- the bill was over $400. We typically get billed once a month, though. Our gas bill during winter months is pretty high. Our bill for this last month was $181. But I expect it to get up to $220 at some point. We did just put in new windows, and we just got new siding (and a thing layer of insulation beneath that). And a new roof.. those should help. But we have like ZERO insulation in the attic, and that really sucks. We are making sure to keep our thermostat set for 68-70, but it does go on a lot, because I think there's something wrong with it. Sigh..

by the way.. before we got our new windows, we had to put plastic up around each one, to keep out the cold air. it did work fairly well.. and helped a little bit with our bills.

Wow, hope you manage to make arrangement for paying that. We are on a budget for propane and the single and minus temperatures are really make our furnace work too. Thankfully the tank was filled last Monday. We should be good til this eases. We had called and aske that our budget payment not to go up and they agreed and gave us a price break on the propane. So am hoping you are able to take care of this important bill!

I live in eastern Canada and it has been sitting around 20 below for the past couple of weeks. I have a heart condition and can't even go for a walk. What we do to save on heat is shut off the rooms that we don't use regularly. We don't even turn the heat on in the bathroom, unless we are going to bath. There are only two of us in our house now so we have more rooms than we need so we close the doors and leave the heat off.

I live in Michigan so Iwojldn't be suprised if Our bill is almost that much. We keep our therostat under 70, so our furnace is not running all the time. We wear sweaters. We do whatever we have to do to stay warm because with our income, The only way to pay that kind of a heating bill is to sue our savings account which we don't want to do. We also have to keep an eye on it because my girlfriend has a daughter who likes to turn it up to 70 because either she dosn't understand that we can't afford it, or she dosn't care. I think it's a lttle bit of both.

I don't know how cold it is there but here up North the houses were built pretty much with enough insulation and people do various things to avoid using too much gas. We wear socks, slipper and full clothing in the house, plus proper bedding materials to keep ourselves from cold. My heater bill every year is $ 1,000 or a bit more. Not only that, we are used to cold temperature living up here so we don't use much heater.
