Folklore the world over has given flowers individual meanings and mythic significance.
In Victoriantimes even the way a posie was tied had hidden meaning,e,g, upside down was a rejection.
Do ot use this as a guied this valentines, a lot of men leave it to the florist!
Lets see how many meanings we can think of:-
The lotus flower has been a symbol of female fertility for over 5,000 years.
Red roses are a worldwide show of love
Pink Roses show less commitment
Red and whire roses together mean a union such as marriage
Yellow roses are more for friendship than passionate love
White flowers for innocence
Lilac flowers for the first feelings of love
Yellow tulips are for unrequited love - you love will never be returned
carnations are for fidelity and deep love
lily-of-the-valley for happiness
honeysuckle show generous attention
carmellias are for gratitude for friendship
simple yellow flowers are a thank-you
faithful flowers are small white blossoms
send white diasies to a new baby as a welcome
send white lilies in rememberance

Flowers used to be used alot between people who would send them to each other and whole meanings like conversation carried on. Alot of times on Sundays at church. It is nice that you brought this here and am hoping some people keep this tradition alive. Attaching a note perhaps explaining like you have done here.

single red rose means love.. thats all i know. haha but thanks for these tips.. so the next time i can buy flowers and not mean differently.

Dandelions are flowers which are considered mostly as weeds. And it is not common that one is given as a gift. But it does have a meaning. Dandelions are the bringer of spring. And when you give a dandelion to another, it signifies new beginnings and fresh start. It also signifies freedom and carefree attitude. It must be warned that Dandelions should not be given as a token of love, for some may take the message negatively.
