Folklore the world over has given flowers individual meanings and mythic significance. In Victoriantimes even the way a posie was tied had hidden meaning,e,g, upside down was a rejection. Do ot use this as a guied this valentines, a lot of men leave it to the florist! Lets see how many meanings we can think of:- The lotus flower has been a symbol of female fertility for over 5,000 years. Red roses are a worldwide show of love Pink Roses show less commitment Red and whire roses together mean a union such as marriage Yellow roses are more for friendship than passionate love White flowers for innocence Lilac flowers for the first feelings of love Yellow tulips are for unrequited love - you love will never be returned carnations are for fidelity and deep love lily-of-the-valley for happiness honeysuckle show generous attention carmellias are for gratitude for friendship simple yellow flowers are a thank-you faithful flowers are small white blossoms send white diasies to a new baby as a welcome send white lilies in rememberance

Flowers used to be used alot between people who would send them to each other and whole meanings like conversation carried on. Alot of times on Sundays at church. It is nice that you brought this here and am hoping some people keep this tradition alive. Attaching a note perhaps explaining like you have done here.

What an awesome idea for attaching a card to a bouquet with the flowers meaning. I love to give my Mom fresh cut flowers when I see her, I think I will add a small card with the meaning to them. I think she'd really appreciate that. Thank you!

My favourite flowers are carnations, of any colour. I really have never given much thought to their meaning before, but thank you for listing them... :)

Dandelions are flowers which are considered mostly as weeds. And it is not common that one is given as a gift. But it does have a meaning. Dandelions are the bringer of spring. And when you give a dandelion to another, it signifies new beginnings and fresh start. It also signifies freedom and carefree attitude. It must be warned that Dandelions should not be given as a token of love, for some may take the message negatively.
