shameless self promoters

How do you feel about them? And I'm not talking about people with the confidence to share their talents, but people who shove everything they do down other people's throats?
For instance, there is a contest right now on another sight I belong to where members are posting their first chapters of a novel in order to win rights to have their second and third chapters considered by a publishing company. The site members can view and give feedback/criticism to the posts, and there are some members who reply and tell the writers their work sucks, but they should suck it up and check out the poster's work at such and such site address because it's so much better.
That's just rude, right there.

That is pretty rude.
Sometimes I feel sorry for these kinds of people, what kind of childhood must they have had that they are now so desperate for attention and yet completely lacking in tact?
Mostly, I just ignore them and usually assume that their work isn't as good as they say. If you are really great at something, OTHER people will talk about it and spread the word.

That's a good way to look at it. I did actually read the guys work, and it was pretty good, but it was so standard for today's tastes that it didn't seem so original as he was hoping. I didn't reply or tell him what I thought though. I figure he'd made enough people angry, they could tell him what they thought!

LOL I know ppl like that in real life...EVERYTHIGN they do is a competition and you dont even have to agree to compete! they toss you in the mix whether you want to be there or not and one person I know in particular went as far as trying to out do ppl (mainly me) in EVERY area of life from websites to the size of her home to parenting and so on...it was crazy! (my husband got a right giggle out of it though LOL)....I acutally feel really sorry for ppl like that....and those who come out with comments like "suck it up" or "you/your work/your ways (etc) suck/are stupid (etc)" never tend to get far with me...I have little tolerance for that if any tolerance at all really...and OMG the silly person who ever dares to tell me to "suck it up" to my face will be eating my fist....that is one phrase when said seriously, i absolutely cant stand...its right up there with "get over it"...
