coma and consiousness? Any opinions?

I wonder what level of consiousness there is when a person is in a coma. I know much of the medical information and the belief that there is no connection between the person in a coma and the world, but still I wonder. How do we measure consiousness, and is it accurate? Isn't it possible that there is activity within us that science has yet to discover, and if so, isn't it possible that someone in a coma is still "there"?

In come a person is in his subconscious world, at times it has happened a person coming out of coma has been able to tell what was happening around his body.

Thank you, and yes...but is that subconscious activity measured? Did the doctors know that the person was "there"?

I have no idea, but I woudln't want to take chances. Someone once told me never to discuss the condition of a patient in a coma, in the patient's presence, because one never can tell how much the patient can understand.
