What cat litter do you use and why?

I'm currently using OzPet Litter and am very happy with it, though I wish the pellets were smaller so the cats can cover their poo easier. I used to use Wonderwheat; I was very pleased with it but it is not easily available and not as economical as OzPet. I get 20kgs worth of OzPet for only AU$10 and it lasts for half a year. They are wood pellets and breaks down into saw dust when in contact with water. It's used with a sieve tray so all the saw dust falls to the bottom tray and the litter is always fresh. I can get away with not cleaning the tray up to 5 days with this system! I love it. Anyway, I'd love to hear about what type of litter you guys are using. I know that you have a much wider variety in America, lucky!

Hi there...before both my house cats were toilet trained we used a product called Swheat Scoop ( http://www.swheatscoop.com/ ) made from naturally processed wheat. It was great at absorbing the odours better than any of the clay litters and not as nearly as messy when the cats tracked them through the household. And the nicest benefit of this type of litter not only that it was environmentally friendly, but flushable so it didn't clog plumbing or septic systems.

Oh wow your cats can use human toilets? That's awesome! I've heard of SwheatScoop, we have something similiar in Australia but sadly not easily available.

Easy Flush - Flushable Cat litter
I like Easy Flush by Arm and Hammer. I keep the litter try beside the toilet and every time I go to the bathroom I clean it out if she has used it. I just put it in the toilet and flush it away. no haveing to get a bag and carry it out to the dumpster and haveing the dumpster smell. I get about 18 lb. box for about $8.00 It last quit a long time. Beings my cat stays inside all the time Iouldn't use any other kind now. There is no problem for the plumbing either.

We use Tidy Cats Multiple Cat. It does the job well and assists in controlling the odors.

We have two cats and have been using "Special Cat" From Wal-Mart....and that seems to work for us....I used the natural wheat brand....and that posed a very big odor problem...so went back to Special Cat.....you might look into that...Bonnie

I use petfresh. I have tried many and this one seems to kill the smell the best.
