Consumer Reports says McDonald's Coffee is much better than Starbucks

Just heard this on this morning's news and thought hmmm interesting - I personally prefer Starbucks as they have so many different choices rather than just a regular cup of joe. So what's your opinion on this?? Do you have a special preference for your favorite cup of joe?? Maybe it's local place to your area or a national company?? Here's the site that discussed this topic: http://www.consumerist.com/consumer/coffee/consumer-reports-mcdonalds-coffee-better-than-starbucks-233735.php

I actually find that pretty interesting. I'd be willing to bet that there are more factors than taste involved in this poll result. For one, McDonald's coffee is considerably less expensive than Starbucks. Another thing to consider is that a McDonald's is often more convenient. A lot of Starbucks have drive-thrus now, but they usually have a line eight miles long. Overall, though, I guess I'm not surprised. Starbucks does pretty well with their specialty drinks (lattes, cappucinos, etc.), and you can't get those at McDonald's. But as for their regular brews, most of them are pretty gross, and really overpriced. Overall, though, I'd probably go to Starbucks for my coffe, because I'm not really into the plain cup o' Joe.

You are so right - there have to be many more factors involved in the poll than just the taste!!! And you have hit all the right points here - with locations, price and convenience too!!! And you are so right - the lines at Starbucks are crazy most times!!! While lines at McDonald's are really never long at all and of course there are several of those in our town but only 1 Starbucks so it's constantly packed so I only go there if I am seriously craving their specialty drinks - otherwise I make my coffee at home!!! Hope you have a Great Day!!!

I'm taking a social research class...so I guess I'm getting pretty aware of what is (or isn't) included in these surveys. Thanks for the best response.

I wonder who they polled? They sure didn't ask me. I don't think that I have ever had decent coffee at McDonalds or any fast food restaurant. Personally, I'm a huge Starbucks fan. I usually drink the nonfat latte, but if I get regular coffee I get the mild house blend because the regular blend of the day is usually a strong coffee. I always wonder about these polls, though. Have you ever known anyone who was ever asked to participate in one of these polls? Are they something that they stop you in the mall to ask about, or is it a mailed-out survey? I wonder if they actually poll anyone at all?

You are so right - they probably polled people either at a McDonald's or in the mall where the other McDonald's are located - otherwise had they polled those of us who enjoy a really tasty cup of joe - then the results would have been so different!!! I haven't personally known anyone who's been polled in a survey like this one - maybe it's just a lil something that McDonald's has pulled in order to get more business for themselves - now that would not suprise me at all!!!!

Maybe the people who voted do not enjoy good coffee. The last cup of McDonalds coffee I had, which was not all that long ago, was gross. The coffee was not smooth at all - even with half & half and sugar which I don't normally use - and it was bitter and tasted watered down even though it was a fresh pot (What my grandmother would call toilet water because that is where it belongs).

I was wondering the same thing - maybe the didn't poll true coffee drinkers - or maybe they actually held the poll at McDonalds??? Yes that does sound totally nasty to me - and I would agree with your grandmother - sure does sound like toilet water to me!!!!

I love my coffee to be very milky, and McDonalds do a lovely Latte. Whenever I go shopping I always try to go to McDonalds just for the latte. If I go into a restaurant which doesn't serve latte, I usually have a cappucino. As long as I have lots of milk, I am not to fussy about the different types of coffee which I drink.

That is hilarious to hear that they actually have to give it away in order for it to be drunk!!!! It sure does sound nasty but really no surprise as it seems to be the norm around here too!!! You would think that someone in the restaurant would know by now how to make a freakin cup of joe that people would actually buy!!!! Have a Great One!!!

I heard about that poll recently, and I was surprised - every time I get coffee at McDonald's, it's awful! I know a lot of people dislike Starbucks and say that it is too strong. I personally would prefer Starbucks, but I normally get a latte or a specialty drink - for plain brewed coffee, I make it at home! It's much cheaper that way.

I agree with you - our local McDonald's too does a terrible cup of joe!!! And I so agree that if I am just wanting a regular cup of joe then I will make it at home - not only cheaper but you can make it the way you like it so it won't get wasted!!!
