Depression in Teenagers

I'm a senior in high school, and after losing my sister to suicide 6 months ago, I've never heard so much about depression in my life. In grieving with the loss of my sister, I've suffered severe depression. It really is a lonely place. In reality, I'm not alone. There are millions of teenagers out there that are depressed. Every 18 seconds, someone in the U.S. dies by suicide. Can you believe it? Teenagers need to be educated on depression. I think they need to understand that there are other solutions than suicide, and be aware that there are people they can talk to.

You are very right . And it is not just teenagers there are a lot of adults out there who don't know enough about depression . I have heard snide remarks about someone who is suffering from depression by adults that feel if you are depressed you are crazy which is not true at all . Anyone can become depressed at any time and if you don't know the symptoms or know what to do for help or feel that other's will judge you , it will prevent you from going for the help you need . I believe this is something that should be taught at an early age as you never know who may or may not be suffering from this in your own family . If you feel you are getting to stressed out and find you are suffering depression make sure you go to your family doctor and talk it over with him/her as you don't want it to become a part of your life . It is something you can and need to control or it will control you .
