How important are first impressions to you?

First impressions last,we were always told. That's why when we have a first date, an interview, a business meeting, we always make sure that we look good to create a good first impression. Does this saying also ring true to you? How important does a person's first impression is to you? For me, i have this attitude when meeting new people. If i didnt like the first impression that someone gave me,i would be hostile to that person and i would have a hard time warming up to him.

When you meet someone for the first time, the first impression you make strongly impacts the course of any future relationship you might have with that person. If you get it right the first time, you increase your chances of making a good friend maybe more. If you get it wrong, you risk losing all future opportunities with that person, “See no evil, smell no evil, hear no evil” is a good adaptation of the traditional three-monkey saying to keep in mind as you prepare to meet someone for the first time. If you don't look right, smell right, or speak correctly at the first meeting, you increase the possibility of offending someone and losing their friendship. So be sure to get it right

I agree that first impressions are important in that they are what tends to stick with a person for a long time. The thing is, though, I know that first impressions can be wrong. I have had feelings that people were slightly stuck up or not as friendly, people who turned out to be some of the nicer people that I have met. So even though I would like to think that i am a fairly intuitive person, I also know that first impressions can be totally off, and I don't try to live by them. It can just be hard to shake that feeling of the first impression that you get from someone.
