Wanna join a cult? Anyone ever had that experience?

Cults- every decade produces a few true maniacs. Recently we had some collection of people called the Raelians, (another "the mother ship will come" group)who’ve been kind and rational enough to proclaim that they’ll clone a human being, whether that person, or anyone else, likes it or not. I couldn't help thinking that I'd never seen a group of people so utterly out of contact with the human race. This healthy desire to form insular, privileged groups is fascinating. Outsiders need not apply, and the law is what they say it is. Too bad about everyone else, and that's what sells their message. Anyone had any exposure to cults, or groups of that type? (If it’s painful for anyone, sorry for raising the subject, but for those of us that haven’t had any direct experience, we need to know, if you can stand it.)
