Do parents have the right to go thru their children's rooms & read their diaries

Can they just search their child's room for unwanted items, based on household rules they have made....without their ward's consent

Although I believe in privacy of all forms, if the parent suspects that their child is up to something than yes I believe they have the right to go through their child's things. After all parents do have a right to know what is going on with their kids especially if they are noticing a drastic change in their child.
