Im still learning the meaning of the stars above our names. But if people are marking you low just because they dont agree that doesnt seem right. They should have to put forth some sort of argument as to why they are marking you low. a reason of why they think your comment is not worthy of a higher rating.

I have seen many instances of people's ratings drop due to the topic of their discussions. As the others pointed out, the rating system is wide open to abuse. I'm of the opinion it creates a sort of police state within Mylot. Ignorant people who don't understand what a debate or conversation is are allowed to troll around here and attack those they don't "agree" with. And to be honorable you really can't fight back. It's probably neccessary to remove any attachment to the ratings. The people that understand the meaning of Mylot will ultimately look at your discussions, not your rating.

I think this rating thing is not a good thing. If myLot wants people to express their true feelings about things, (in a tactful way of course) then this rating system should go. There will be people who disagree with you, and that's ok, but one should not be rated negatively because of that. It seems this rating thing is making people talk only about very simple and irrelevant matters, and hiding their real feelings about stuff. One can disagree without being offensive or disruptive, and those people should not be rated negatively. However, I think the option of choosing a best answer is a good thing, but that's a more personal thing, as one person's best answer may be someone else's worst answer. That shouldn't go towards how popular someone is.
