Help...A Boy Committed SUICIDE in my College TODAY!!!!

India
February 6, 2007 10:05am CST
Im studying in South India. Our Engineering college is Fully Residential. A boy from the Final year committed Suicide by hanging himself on the fan in his room this morning. He was the BEST student in his Class so called the "BEST PROGRAMMER". He was also placed in one of the Top IT(information technology) Company HCL in India. He wrote down a note stating he Committed Suicide Because his project was rejected and because he could not get 90%, though he had 89.1% of marks. This is a very silly reason to commit suicide. No one knows the real reasons behind this act of his. Our college management is trying to hide the fact of his death by telling its because of his personal problems. He was never that kind. And they have not even given a single day of Holiday for this. Our college boys are planning for a big Strike tomorrow, because the college's management is acting very strange and stupid. We miss him a lot in our Department, He was a very good and a humble Leader. Why Would People commit suicide for such small failures...?? Can we help the present Day teenage and college going Students From this Mishap..?? Please send in Your Views and suggestions...!!!

That is a very sad but rare occurrence in today's world. Most teenagers aren't even upset about the fact that they accomplish NOTHING! So, for him to carry the burden of wanting to be so good, almost perfect, is very sad indeed and holiday should be given in his honor. This school and trade was probably all he knew and all he wanted to know, and without being the best or feeling he was doing his best, he was empty.

sounds like he had a lot of pressure on him. with the classes and the Best Programmer hanging on his head. Personal things that were going on. I've heard a lot of people killing themselves for not getting a good grade on something. especially in college. i also think it's very silly to kill yourself for something so minor. i think the college managment is very confused and they don't know what to do about this. they've probably never gone through this before. they don't know whether to keep it quiet or address the subject. the only way to help the present day teens and college students is not to pressure them so hard. not to have many personal problems. but obviously that's not going to happen.. i wish there would be a way to help teens and college students in this day's world.

Well my friend, i beleive this should be a good lesson for you and i and others as well that in all we do we can only do or be that which we are destined to be, no matter our ambitions always put God first. I pray that God takes him to glory cause my faith make me to belive that it is a sin to take someones elses life even your own cause you cant make it!!!. God will give the family and you his friends the fortitude to bear his loss. Unless otherwise proven if he is involved in some other things then it is definately an homicide work for the police to unravel. But my fear is that the Police in India are not different from those in Nigeria, they dont carry out out detail investigations!! NB;You can add me as your friend.

whatever the reason may be commiting sucide is total stupidity...its juz one life and taking this kind of dissision is insane....jus think abt his parents how much dreams they would had on him....this is his own problem not a social stuff and how could you blame the management for his mistake...

its really sad to hear that the country lost a brilliant boy but to be honest in todays world cut-throat competiton exists and every single point is very important for one to get a job in the best know company to be paid best to be known n it just follows. our system should be more soft when it comes to studies so that all of us get atleast a decent oppurtunity.

It is not easy to judge a person who takes this extreme step. No one knows what was going on inside his mind. But try not to let this overtake your thought processes. It is important to retain your own equilibrium in this situation. Take care

Thats really terrible, it must be such a shock to his parents, but why to go to such drastic steps, there must be some underlying problems anyways sucide is not the answer, I think schools and colleges must have a counseller

well even i am from south india and even i have seen many such incidents and really feel sorry for your friend and i the basic reason is the pressure, his parents may be pressurizing him to study and also his confidence came down when he failed in two things that is project rejection and less marks, anyway nothing can be done and even if you are making a strike then let it be purposeful and mean.

its quite sad. but to be frank teenagers are quite emotionally week, although they don't show it.and also they r quite ambitious. so they take every success and failure in their heart.so this result might have got in heart. this might be the reason. pls bear with this truth.

Sad to hear that.teens are very sensitive. In India, parents pempered nd spoil their children these days as they have only one or two children at Home.So Children fail to face real problems boldly. But who knows what the real reason was?I believe some problems that affected hime badly-Perhaps some problems at college itself.

well, may be he is under the pressure that he can't handle anymore (besides his study) and he doesn't want to talk to anybody about it... if you say that the college management is acting really strange, then i think you should call the police to do an investigation... it is such a pity that he just takes his life like that and not consult with anybody first before he does that... i am sure people can give him a solution to his problems no matter how bad his problems are rather than taking his own life... my condolences for you and all your other friends in the college and good luck for the investigation...

Wow, that is so sad! I think society demands so much of people/students today to be their best and that they aren't good enough.... proving once again by not even giving you guys a break to deal with this. So sad! I am so sorry!

Sometimes there are deeper problems that we don't see. don't always assume that these things happen for the obvious reasons. My thoughts are with you all. Love and light.

Unfortunately, as much as we try, we can't help the present teenage and college age students, or even the young children or older adults from such pressure like this. --- There is always going to be the pressure, from both inside (feelings, emotions, conditions such as OCD or depression) and from the outside (scholarships, funding, job prospects, parental/friend/partner expectations) because of the pressures from the rest of the world. --- Many societies are bowing to the pressure of "Bigger, better" and then placing that pressure very heavily on the 'brighter' minds, the 'stronger' backs (not to say that the rest of the population doesn't have it's share of the pressure!) and sometimes, that causes them to buckle. --- Perhaps he was going through some internal pressure? "If I don't get this, then I'm not as good as I want to be." It can be very dehabilitating. --- I send my sincere condolences, it's hard to go through something like that, especially since it sounds like your college seems to be pretty close.
