What else should I know!?

Last night, my water heater went out. It's fairly new, so I was surprised. I had NO idea where to begin trying to fix it. This morning I woke up and it was still out, so I called my mom at work. She told me to switch the breaker on it and then switch it back. Did that. Then her co-worker told me to get into the little panel on the side of the water heater and reset it. One or the other worked. But this got me thinking. I am floundering in renter's paradise! I know hardly anything about fixing things that often go wrong in a household! When I clean, it's such a hassle; when I was living in my one room as a teenager in my ma's house I was more organized!! I am trying to get back in touch with that "in control" person... I want to at least have some Plan As for when little things go wrong! SO I am asking for your advice. What are some neat tips you've picked up along this journey we call life, that you think people need to know?? Thanks!

I ain't some kinda mech but manage to get a few things running again when they are down, by trying out just one thing or the other. In most cases, I try to recapitulate my past experiences(if any at all) of handling similar kinds of household items and by reconfirmation with whatever little knowledge I have gained all through the years of my schooling and college, try out the options available. If it works, well and good. If it doesn't, I simply go and call the mech.

treat the place as if it is the extension of your room. like you said, you need a bit of organization. so, write things down so you would know what to do when the time comes that you have to fix something. i would suggest that you should have a baking soda always at hand because it is a good cleanser aside from cooking and a tool to put off fire on a burning pan or stove.always have an exrta bulb or flourescent once the use ones gone out so you wont have to go out and buy.dust off everyday so it wont accumalate that much and it would lessen the chances you will get colds and allergy.in other words , better to be ready when something happens.
