Do you think that this was a good idea - selling a college tuition on Ebay?

A university in Oklahoma is offering a year's worth of tuition on Ebay. Currently, the bids are up past 4,000 dollars. A year's worth of tuition to the school would normally cost over 20,000. It's very possible that one student with the winning bid will get a really great deal on one year's tuition. Would you buy a tuition on Ebay? What other kinds of deals have you found on Ebay that you never would have expected to find there?

i was thinking $4,000 sounded like a lot of money. A years tuition costs $20k. That staggers me, i thought it was bad having to pay £3k in the UK. I suppose if you can get it cheaper then its worth doing. I remember someone was selling raffle tickets for their house on ebay. about £10 per ticket then someones name would be picked out of the hat and they got the house. Actually worked quite well because they sold about 50,000 tickets, ended up getting £500k for a house worth £200k and someone else got a house for £10

There is a raffle in our area for St. Jude's childrens hospital that does the same thing with a house, but the tickets are $100 each. The house is usually worth more than $500k. The builder donates the house for the raffle and the hospital gets all the cash.

I hope it works out for someone that may not have been able to go to university otherwise. It's a unique idea. Ebay never ceases to amaze me, but I never thought a college degree would be something that you would find there.

Holy moley!!! I live in Oklahoma and I have not heard of that!!! I guess the college is using this as to try to bring more people to their college. Pretty good idea...I think. It just might generate more people. Sure, if I had the money to buy a tuition and the tuition did not have to be used right away, I would make a bid. Why not? You sure would be savings money!

Good idea, bad idea, who knows? I guess if it works it was a good one! I have never had the time to just browse around and look at funky things on ebay (but I have the time to sit and post here all day LOL). One of my daughters has told me about some pretty strange things that are listed and bought~Donna

I had not heard of this. I think it is a great idea if it is being sold by the University itself. It will get a lot of publicity. Yes I would buy a tutition on ebay, again, assuming it is being sold by the University itself. I would not purchase it from an individual. I usually stick to clothes and books on CD;s when shopping on ebay. I have gotten taken before to. I guess you always take a chance with anthing you do.

I don't get your point. They could have gotten students even if they had not run the auction.

I think that is a great idea. If a person can get a deal on a tuition then that is great. More power to them.

I think that as long as it is the university selling the tuition and not an individual, then it is great. It may enable someone to go to college that might not have been able to otherwise. Of course, I imagine the buyer will have to pay for it lump sum, which might prove difficult. It still beats having to take out loans to afford college. I use ebay at times for clothing, piano music for my daughter and items for my husband in support of his favorite college basketball team.

I would definitely buy a college tuition for a year for $4000. That's a bargain at most universities. I think the weirdest thing I ever saw sold on ebay was a man selling his ex-wife's wedding dress. She cheated on him and he wanted to get revenge so he modeled a bunch of pictures in her dress and then sold them and the dress on ebay. It was a beautiful dress. :D

I think it's a great idea for the college to do that- it will be wonderful for someone who really needs it! I got a great limited edition 14 K gold dumbo charm for 4.00- I was thrilled.
