My daughter gets recurring headlice! :( She first picked it up at pre-school, and I have treated her with a chemist product, but they keep coming back! HELP! I have tried using conditioner and combing through her hair with a fine-tooth comb, but they still return! Has anyone got any suggestions which may help?????

I have only had to deal with head lice twice in my childrens hair and the eldest is now 12 so maybe this system works! I am paranoid about the little blighters and use the conditioner in their hair (probably drown the lice by the amount I use) and then do it daily for avout a week. I also wash all bedlinen and hats. Although I have seen information that they don't live for long off the body anyway. Anyway I think the answer is persistance.

That same exact thing happened to me. I had to go to the health department to get a nurse to check before she was allowed to return to preschool. That nurse saw me there 4 times in one week before she gave me approval. I was getting so frustrated because I would spend hours and hours under a bright lamp picking and pulling each strand of hair. My daughter had should blade length hair and kind of thick. It took 4 hours every night of going through her hair for 4 days. I finally got it all out. I only washed her hair once with the shampoo, because I didn't think it would be good for her, so her hair was kinda oily by the 4th day from me pulling and examining it. I wanted to go out and celebrate after that, and I was scared to let her even go back to preschool, since that is where she got it in the first place. Everytime she scratched her head, I thought, oh no, not again. That was the worst experience. I hope that you get past it soon. I tried everything, and it seemed that pulling them out by hand was the only thing that got rid of them. I was so mad I threw away her brush and pillow cases. I didn't want to take the chance.

Oh man do I sympathise with you, all three of my kids had head lice from school at one point. Try Tea Tree Oil for a natural treatment, it will work. Also make sure all pillows, stuffed animals etc get wrapped up for a few days in a garbage bag or put them in a hot dryer to kill any live lice. You might also want to let your daughters hair go greasy for a bit as apparently lice like clean hair. They cannot lay their eggs if the hair is oily. Here is a link for more info on tea tree oil: http://altmedicine.about.com/od/herbsupplementguide/a/TeaTreeOil.htm Best wishes!!!

Argh you poor thing. There is nothing worse than lice ... i have an itchy scalp just thinking about it. They say that lice prefer clean heads so maybe that's the problem. Apart from doing the usual and cleaning EVERYTHING to get rid of them I'm not sure what else to suggest. Are they aware of the problem at school? She may still be picking it up from there. Have you tried that removal stuff that the lady who makes nads strips made?? or was it nair?? one of those - its supposed to help with them not coming back. I remember seeing it on one of the morning infomerical shows.

My advice is for you to change her pillows and beddings. You should try to wash her towels, hair brush/comb with the same chemical you used for her hair.

Hi Kye!!! When my nieces were younger they had constant head lice and they gave it to me and it took me months to finally get rid of it, I went to the chemist and I got a herbal spray , I dont remember what it was called but it was all natural and that was the end of them, I dont have the bottle now but it was only a 100ml bottle and the bottle was green, it was brilliant and I have never had them since

Hartz dog shampoo works great I know what your thinking is this person for real? But trust me it works a doctor recommended to my sister who's kids kept getting lice repeatedly. Use it till they are no more netsa and also the shamppoo will help in them not returning. Or if all else fails you can do what my dad once did to us kids covered our heads with kerosene. Not kidding. it worked to but smelled and was hard to get the scent off you. Well, good luck. Oops! remember to do more then just the home,beds,pillows,toys,furniture,rugs,etc.. Do the cars! And the outside stuff to. We used the dog shampoo on our carpet as well and it worked worked for fleas to..
