i've got star 8 now. but what is that mean??

hey, yesterday morning i got this star (8)! i am very happy cuz i post over 100 and finally i got rank 8. so, what i dont understand is, the star means our rank right??? if 8 means rank 8?? i am confuse cuz certain members in mylot told soon i will get 10. so could someone explain to me this situation?? cuz i started from star 8.... which one is better?? star 8 or star 10?? and what is the different between this two?
