Should U.S. stay in Iraq or Should they leave?

United States
February 6, 2007 8:29pm CST
I am an American and I have seen the issue whether to stay in Iraq or not. I believe that the Americans should leave. They should leave because if they stay in there any longer the Americans will lose a lot of troops who have homes in the U.S. and have children and wives, who worry about them every day. They should also leave because I believe that Iraq should be able to sort out their own differences with themselves. Also, I'm pretty sure the Iraqi leader does not want the Americans to stay in any longer. That is my opinion. What is your view on the issue and what is your argument on the issue?

its not their busines how other countrys develop, just like how america got to learn and develop and become a great nation without other nations coming in and puttin their noses where they dont belong, they should let other countries do the same. one other thing is that ppl only seem to mention the american soldiers that are dyin and have homes here and watever, wat about the iraqis? what about their country. people are dying ther too, not just soldiers, innocent civilians are being killed every day, whether its becuz of the U.S. or not, even tho a lot of this is.

That is a very good point. Iraqis do have rights. I think that they deserve better than what they have. What they have is fear of doing anything with their lives. Some won't leave their homes because of the war. Also, I wouldn't want to go to a school that a bomb or an attack could strike at any moment. I really do agree with you and think that they deserve better.

I appreciate your concern for those American soldiers. I am not an Iraqi nor an American. And so I speak as a third person. I believe US led coalition shouldn't have attacked in the first place. Even if it had to pull down Saddam H it should have gone through UN. But past is past. I just said that so that in future one could do something to avoid such repeatation. I think US needs to pull out, but it should be done in a phased manner. Since the country is in bad shape, and pulling out suddenly will make things worse in Iraq. Yes, in the whole process US will lose soldiers who have near and dear ones back home. But it is also true that if US pulls out suddenly so many Iraqi lives will be lost. Now either way is difficult for the US govt. But US have to bear the cost. Not because I want see American soldiers killed. It is a terrible thing to hear news of killing, whether it is American or British or Iraqis. But I think it is moral obligation. I just pray that things will return to normal life soon.

I can see that. I really want to see the U.S. pulled out so that there is no trouble, but I also want to see that my country is not terrorized. I think we should definitly pull out though still because I heard their prime minister or whoever thier leader is said he wants the Americans out. I think that if we don't pull out soon, then they will throw more terrorist threats at us and actually use them just so the U.S. will get the message.

definitely, if the Iraqi leadership thinks that American troops pulling out of Iraq would be better for Iraq, then US should not hesitate even a single moment. Why lose more people, and make more enemies!

personally i think that any country doesn't has rights to interfere in any other's personal affairs... USA is doing wars in iraq for some pointless reasons, just to kill Saddam. now he isn't any more... so USA should left Saddam as fast as they can... More stay in USA will take more life of their soldier's lifes.

I think we need to finish what we started. Too many times before have we pulled out too early and then a few years later they come back to attack us or cause trouble. No this time finish it and make sure that the mess is cleaned up and we won't have to worry. I don't want the next 30 years of my life filled with the same headlines I had to deal with during my first 35 years, ones like Olympics being attacked, hostages held for almost 2 years, planes taken over, places being bombed etc. I'd like to have the next generation to have their own worries and not the same ones we had.

Actually the Iraqi leader does want the US to stay longer. he realizes that the country will collapse under the selfish actions of the insurgents that simply don't care for peace.

good for you mr. nice guy.. you are the first to say the truth. I am proud to be an American, and if it were not for us there would have been more bloodshed here than over there. we need to support our country, because it looks like nobody else does. Although they will take any money our government gives them for improving their own countries. We help EVERYONE-ALL THE TIME.

Here is a novel idea. bring the troops home and lets put them on our borders and patrol keeping us safe from all the bad evil out there, of course that would only help for outside our border threats. Now what can be done for the threats coming from inside our borders? Your guess is as good as mine. Terrorism is in all of us. Most of us control it.

It is not that strange that you being an American, want US to leave Iraq. This is how common people think mostly, and it is correct globally. But Politicians are not going to pay heed to our prayers and demands as they continue to stick to one policy decision. Anyway, hopefully oneday they will understand their mistakes and take corrective measures. So far as I'm concerned, I stongly believe every country has the right to sort out its own problem and to frame policies that suit it the most. It is not a matter of US and Iraq, it is correct for every other country of this world.

I am Canadian, and from the beginning most Canadians did not support the war in Iraq. There were no chemical weapons, Al Quada was not in Iraq in the beginning. It grates on my nerves when George Bush always combines the War on Terror with the war in Iraq. It breaks my heart and I cry when I see so many beautiful young people killed in a country that does not want them, does not care for them, and whose inhabitants blow each other up on a daily basis taking these young soldiers with them. It is true that a dictator like Saddam Hussain was able to keep the lid on sectarian violence. With American interference a vacuum was created which allows this masssacre between religious groups to continue. Having recognized and admitted that the current strategies do not work, the Americans should leave, and not send more more of their precious young men over there to be blown to bits. The Iraqis should battle their own battle against each other. Furthermore, the Americans really take a beating in Islamic countries, because of bad propaganda. Regrettably some horror stories have happened, but these isolated instances of American misbehaviour are blown out of proportion. Americans are routinely portrayed as rapists and killers. Why is the American Government trying to shove some sort of democracy down the throat of a people who do not want it?

I think we should leave. We came and id what needed to be done. Now it is our time to get out. Let Iraq have its own civil war. With no interference from outsiders. To deteremine how the country is going to be run and what the new laws and goverment will be.

Well i feel that its high time they leave the placecoz they are directly killing iraqi poeple and indirectly killing their own soldiers.and the bugdet for it is huge for the defense section alone.all this can be used to atleast develop iraq or someothetr under developed.

We should leave. We should have never one there. They are in a religous civil war and any non=Iraqui's are viewed as extra points. Mr. Bush needs to wake up and pull our people out!

I have been against the Iraq War since President Bush and his Neoconservative buddies first mentioned the possibility of invading the country. Whether Hussein had weapons of mass destruction or not wasn’t the issue in my mind. Instead, I worried about the morality of the United States making a preemptive invasion of any country. Yes, the 9/11/2001 attack on the World Trade Center was abhorrent and evil. It did not, however, make moral an invasion of a foreign country based on the assertion that it had ties to Al Qaeda. Such an invasion was and is immoral. To my mind, it smacks of “an eye for an eye” anachronistic Pentateuch world view, and I thought that the United States would achieve nothing but the reputation of the fat schoolyard bullyboy by pursuing a preemptive invasion

yes they should better leave. it's iraq's internal problem. so let them handle their own problems. it's really nonsense for americans to stay there. hope they really learn that.

first of all there was no reason on earth to for U.S to attack iraq ,i think bush ahould be blamed for this trouble and the current situation in that country which is not costing the lives of innocent iraqis but also amercian soliders who have family back home, there invasion has led to great ethenic divide in the country ,which wont be solved easily and also the video of saddams execution just added fuel to the fire . About the withdrawl of the troops from iraq i think america cant do it right now ,they cant leave the country in a mess , where bomb blast and rocket fire have become a common thing .The only solution to this problem would be U.N soliders taking charge of iraq

U.S. should stay in Iraq for it is better to combat terrorism there than in the borders of America. If we don't act now chances are the terrorists will have enough time to raise funds, broaden its army and terrorize countries again thus, affecting the flow of economy and the world market as well.

Its true that there was some reason for US to goto Iraq. But now all world know that its was a lie. And they were note able to do anything better in Iraq. Its understood that America's interest was just on the vast oil that Iraq had... American's presence in Iraq can be said as a Modern Invasion. This cannot be tolerated at all. Its time for America to return back. Its not only from Iraq..they have to stop their inasion from many countries in the world.
