I live in BC,Canada and here it is the law that you MUST have yourseatbelt on and properly attached.I am a cheap SOB and cannot/willnot pay for a fine that I could easily avoid,so I wear the belt everytime I start the engine.

I always try to make sure that I have my seatbelt on. I don't see a difference between having it on when you are on the highway as opposed to other places. It is always safer to be wearing it. The times that I have not had mine on, I have mostly just forgotten because of something else that distracted me. But either way, I have the type of seatbelt where it is across my shoulder no matter what, once I get in the car. it is just the part that goes across my stomach that I occasionally forget to put on once I get in, if something is going on that gets my mind off of doing it. But I dislike when I do forget, because I just feel safer knowing that I'm all buckled in. ^_^

I always do wear my seatbelt and I make sure that anyone in my car wears one also. I know there are instances when a seatbelt could cause more damage in a car accident but that is rare, so I just feel safer with mine on. A friend of mine was in a car accident and was seriously injured because he was wearing his seatbelt. The docotrs said he would have had less injuries had he not had it on. So now he actually has a letter from his doctor and witnessed by police stating that he does not have to wear his seatbelt. He carries it around with him just incase he gets pulled over. He is very paranoid about wearing them. It is illegal where I live to not wear one but they really only enforce it if you get pulled over for something else, and then half the time the cops won't write you up for it anyways. I still believe that in most cases a seatbelt can save your life.
