Peaceful Religions

A friend said to be a couple of days ago that no religions are peaceful, that all religions cause war and violence. For example: Christianity in northern Ireland, Island and recent terrorist attacks etc. Do you think there are any religions that are completely peaceful and never cause any violence?

It is the people not the religion, but of all that I am familiar than I would say look toward the buddhist. Please don't confuse religion with the human side of it. I am a Christian who must live with having served my country and I will be judged by God, but I truly believe in Christ and the 11th Commandment of loving everyone. I try to treat people as individuals and don't blame people for what their governments have done. I certainly don't want to be blamed for what every President of the United States has done. I certainly have more morals than the Clintons and I believe Bush has made serious mistakes in Iraq. The trouble in Northern Ireland had more to do with jobs than religion so don't be fooled. Just remember the great religious phophets such as Christ, Buddha and Mohammad. They preached peace. War is something man has done for greed. There has never been a war that was not a war of greed. Don't ever let anyone tell you there has been a "good war" or a "just war" any time a mother buries her child it has been a bad war.

The 11th commandment! I love that! Never heard it before. Liked your post too.. tho, maybe disagree just a degree or two about wars, in that i guess i see life as a war of good and evil, and sometimes ya have to stand up against things (like hitler, of course) - that doesn't make war any less horrible and devastating and, well, there just is no words.. Maybe I would think of it like if I saw someone grab a child and trying to run off / abduct them. Ya better believe I would feel no qualms about slugging them side the head and basicly doing everything I could to deliver the child from his clutches and the great sufferings he would bring. But I sure do look forward to when good has fully triumphed over evil; for this is the only possibility! Seeing as God is Perfect and Perfection (and the breath of Life/Life also), onLy the absolute BEST end result of this life (human history) is possible!!

You don't think the caste system is "anti social" or has given people an excuse for violence and treating people badly?

Not all Muslims are "Normally involved" in anti-social activities. Don't judge a whole religion based on an extremenist sect... just like I don't judge all of Christianity based on David Koresh or the Westboro Baptist Community Church... or the whack jobs that blow up abortion clinics.

I thought of another one - The Amish. They are the most peaceful religion.

I never thought of that. I don't know much about Amish. I just realised in my original post I wrote Island instead of Islam. lol.

I think that Buddhism is probably one of the most peaceful religions... but then again it's more of a philosophy than a religion.

All religions strive to answer man's basic fundamental questions, where have we come from, where are we going to. Each religion with its own teachings/doctrines try to bring man closer to God, each religion with its own journey. Egoism in man exists whethever he is a christian a muslim, a hindu believer or whatever religion you belong to. Good and evil exist in each of us.

I think of this as just another bigotry. I'm quite sure that all groups and types of people, nations, lands, races and religions, are made up of all degrees of good and bad (equally). And when ya start to say some certain group is more responsible for the evils of the world than another.. well, that's just the same old, same old! The blame game. Yes this type of behavior drives me crazy! No matter who does it! As IT'S usually the root of a lot of evil. It's the same as saying "I didn't do it (when you get caught. He/she did." --- It's the belief that my particular group does not share as much blame for the way the world is, it's that other group over there! It's the oldest game and temptation, and it works real well, and over, and over (and over). Most wars have been wars of conquest.. Even the wars against the (world)conquests of communism and terrorism.. Religion has been used for politics. To say religion is the root of all wars, I hate to say it, but it kinda shows a lack of knowledge of history and human nature / reality :))
