According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult male in the United States is:
* 69.2 inches, or
* 5 feet 9.2 inches
For a female in the United States is:
* 63.8 inches, or
* 5 feet 3.8 inches
This according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999-2002.
I am way about the national average, I'm 5 feet 10 inches or 70 inches tall..of course I am fastly approaching the age where I become the incredible shrinking women! I will keep you posted on my descent into shortdom(grin)
So how do you measure up to the average or just how tall are you?

In india the avg height does go down because of the regional barriers and the envirnmental barriers.
Also majorly because of the genes being carried over for years.
I am only 5 feet 5 inches and i am a male.

Wow, I didn't know those were the averages. I always thought I was short, but I'm actually average-ish. About 5'4". Strange. I wonder why I feel short.
I wonder how much those averages are going to change over the next few years. I have seen so many tall young people. I have friends whose preteen children are already as tall as I am, and most of the college kids I see tower over me.

You know I think you are right I think that at least here in the USA the averages will change in the next few years. We have good nutrition and health care, okay not all of us but most do so I can see that contributing to the change in height averages.
Thank you for the response.
