babyboomers who are moving into maintence free, no lawns to mow , smaller quarters and reducing costs. There is a trend towards apartments and also townhomes because many boomers want more freedom , less exspense and less work. Do you believe the adjustments will work out and will this bring an easier lifestyle for them?

I guess in some cases it doesn't make sense to keep a big house and have tons of work to do. It might work out well for some and not so well for others. People often do things just to follow the latest trends and later discover they made the wrong move. I think it is up to each individual to decide to do this. It makes sense to cut costs unless you can increase income.

Thats so true. I was reading the article on the pros and cons of it all. It does seem to be more cost effective for many.

I am really late catching up on my post. I had read this one in my mailbox and my answer was going to be much different 3 days ago. Myself and my husband had decided to move to an apartment with just 2 bedrooms from our 4 bedroom townhouse. This would let us save some money for other stuff. That night my 20 year old daughter who is a single mother came over and asked us if she could move back in. What could we say. So much for downsizing for us.

That is not for me. I need my space. Can't stand to be living in an apartment. Been there and done that for to many years already and hated it. Give me a home with a lawn anytime.

It certainly should bring an easier lifestyle. I know that my husband and I spend countless hours in the summer months maintaining flower beds, lawn, and external home repairs. Seems there is always something to eat that little bit of money you put back ...be it roof, paint, gutters, whatever. My oldest son is in a condominium and has none of these costs (of course there is a maintenence fee) but the biggest envy I have over the cost issue,is the time to enjoy weekends rather than work in the yard!

I think it's fantastic! I am just at the tail end of the baby boomers. If these folks want more time to devote to travel or persue other interests, I think it is wonderful. I however will stay on my ranch and slowly hand over the reins as my father did with me. I am too used to wide open spaces and the beauty and serenity of the countryside.

I need my space and if I am cooped up I go nuts. I love working outside in my garden and mowing the grass. I would rather work in my garden then house clean..

My husband and I are baby boomers and it seems nice not to have anything to take care of BUT i hate apartment living,I like space. We have a moblie home on 2 cares of land.We have 2birds a parrot and a parakette, and a cat and dog...I like doing yard work and I enjoy the out doors..We go to auctions and flea markets and garage sales,I don, think I could ever be cooped up in a apartment its jut not me..however if thats what the boomers want thats their choice, but i know a lot of baby boomers that does not prefer that small apt living.

I believe that of all the stresses and heartaches the the baby bommers have been though, the thought of a easier live style is appealing! My husband and I would like to have an all in one, level home some day (No stairs). If the babybommers want a maintence free life style I say "Go for it!"
