What Should The Punishment Be? - I Think It Should Be Maximum,

United States
February 7, 2007 9:32am CST
Last night I received a email saying "Kiss For You". I know you are not supposed to open attachments from people you don't know. This is the first time I ever opened one and my virus protection caught and prevented 5 serious viruses that was in the email. This could have caused tremendous damage to my pc if I didn't have updated virus protection. My question is what should happen to these people who do this when they are caught? I would press criminal charges against the person and also sue them for all the damages done to my pc and for the emotional damage. What would you do? Lloyd

It is great that your virus protection caught it. It is a shame that there are poeple out there who enjoy trying to destroy other peoples computers. They should be punished. I too would sue them if given the chance. Do you mind if I ask which virus protecion you use? I use Norton which has caught many attttempts recently to my computer.

Hello Howard. I have Verizon Yahoo virus protection. It's updated everyday. It's part of the service they provide. I think that being able to sue them would stop their evil doings. And if they are too young to be sued, then maybe sue their parents. Lloyd

I agree with you, if they are too young go after the parents who are not doing their job and keeping an eye on thier little critters. I feel that if they catch and seriously punish these scammers and thieves then others will think twice about trying it.

Luckily though, you escaped it unscathed (well mostly!) you are right though, never open spam or unknown email or attachments. Sometimes it is tempting though and the curiousity does get to you.... I think that those people should stand against a wall be my target practice for my tennis swing. heh

You are so right. Sometimes it is tempting to open up an unknown email. Your punishment is great. Lol. Lloyd

I am completely in favour of maximum penalties for this type of act. I loathe the people who mailciously spread viruses and malware to infect the property of others, and especially those who try downloading a dialer or similar program to take money from innocent people. I also hate the spammers who inflate my inbox with dozens of useless emails that I have to sift through to find my genuine mail. The law should be as tough as it is possible in order to eradicate this menace.

You are so right. There was a point where the authorities were going after the spammmers, but it seemed as if they are overwhelmed by the amount of people spamming. And spam filters work about 70% percent of the time, plus legitimate email get caught blocked occassionally. It's a difficult situation. I don't know the answer to this problem. Lloyd

Hello Megan. I just don't understand how people can just wake up and decide to cause damage to peoples personal property. They might think it is funny, but it's not funny at all. Lloyd

Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd. First off, shame on you, you know better. :) Never, never open attachments or take candy from strangers. Of course they should be punished, they are idiots but we have been getting emails long enough now to know they are idiots and if we open one we are not being to bright. I hope I said that without offending you but I also hope you never do it again. :)

Hello WebMann. You are 100% right. I do know better. It was the first time I ever opened an attachement from someone that I didn't know and it almost cost me. And no I wasn't offended. I even gave you a plus rating for knocking some good sense back into my head. lol Take care. Lloyd
