Do you finish reading every book you start?

I'm always been insistent on finishing every book that I start, even if I don't enjoy the book. So here I am 60 pages into a vampire novel with prose so purple that I think Barney might have ghost written it. Do I put it down and pick up something else? Do I soldier through and hope the book has some redeemable qualities? What about you all, do you finish a book even if it doesn't grab you, or give it a couple of chapters and move on to something better?

I'm the same way. I figure if you start a book, you should finish it, but if it's poorly written, I will stop reading it immediately. You can't torture yourself like that. It's just too painful! I usually read the first 3-5 chapters even if a book is a slow starter. I've been really intrigued by a few that started like that, but when the writing is bad, I give up once I realize that's what's holding me back.

No. If I have no interest in it that I stop reading. I have 3 kids & 1 is only 6 weeks old. I have such little time to read, that I can't waste it on something I am not interested in.

I usually finish a book I start however after one book if by half way through I'm not liking it or it hasn't grabbed my attention I put it away. I learned after the Tommyknockers. I figured it would pick up, it would get better, it didn't. So if by half way through I'm fighting to stay awake with it I give up. If by that point the author hasn't made me want to finish the book then I don't see a point in doing so. The thing is though that doesn't happen very often. Most I find I can enjoy and finish without a problem.

I usually do finish my books but if I start one that is not up to my standards, I put it down and start another one. I love to read but I want something that is clean and I come away smarter for reading it. I hate books that are just trashy.

I try my best to get through books that I start. There have been a few that I just couldn't make it through. Hot Zone and Life of Pi are among them. Hot Zone still has a bookmark in place stashed on the bookshelf somewhere I am sure. If I find myself re-reading pages trying to understand what the heck is going on, I put the book down. I'll try again the next day. After that I put it up for good.

Recently, I have been getting more picky about what I read and cant' handle books that lose my interest. SO I am often putting books down after 20 or 30 pages into them and looking for something more interesting. I am having trouble finding interesting reads.

i try to, its used to be my policy. but there are just some books that are overly large, with little text, and totally NOT worth your time. before, there are times when for the sake of finding a redeeming quality in the book that i succumbed to the never ending cycle of reading on, wasting time, realizing the wasted time, yet continue on reading on. but not anymore, ive finally toughen up and resisted the urge, finding more satisfaction in moving onto another book and discovering that the content is much more better than the last one.

If a book doesn't grab me than I generally move on to another book. Some books are so good I can't put them down. For instance, Running With Scissors and The Glass Castle. I will not waste time on a book I do not enjoy.

I try to finish every book. But, if it sucks, no point in slogging through it.

I usually try to give it at least 1/3 of the book to grab me. There was only one book that I could not finish recently and that was because of the grammer errors - they were so distracting that I could not get through it. It was not just a few here and there, the book was full of them! But other than that, I really do try to finish every book I start.

i try, usually before i pick up a book, i search for reviews or prioritize the ones recommended to me by my peers who enjoy similar topics that i do :) the will is strong but the body is weak lol i guess age is catching up with me, i can't seem to finish a book in a span of time like i used to :)

i am not much of a novel fan. but whenever i start reading one, i can't get through a day without reading chapters of it. i can finish a book for a week. not a fast reader though. but whenever i finish reading a chapter, i wanna go to another chapter and another chapter quick. i feel excited on what's gonna happen next. there are books that isn't interesting in the beginning. so, i always try to read another chapter to see if it might be better. if still not, i get to read another chapter and so on. without noticing much, i've read the whole book already.

I personally try to finish every book that I start. You never know what surprises you may get in the end! However, there have been a couple that just couldn't keep my attention and I eventually moved on to something else. One bad book example that I sat through and hoped would get better was Gerald's Game. That book still makes me rethink the whole "finish no matter what" concept.

With my busy lifestyle, I get very little time to pleasure read. Therefore when I do pleasure read I want the book to be one of those that you can't lay down! If it doesn't grab me after a chapter or two, I move on! I try to read reviews and listen to the opinions of others to decide whether to even attempt a book.

Life is too short to do something you do not like to do. Reading, for me, is usually a relaxation type of activity, unless I am reading to do research for a new book I am writing. I usually have several books on the go and some that get too boring do not get finished. I do not have enough time to waste.

to ahsan and pimponel, well, i hated reading books, too before. but i learned to love it. i also try to compare novels from their movie versions. but i always find the novel versions better than those being done in films. well, we have our own ideas anyway.

I am sorry you feel that way Ahsan. I love reading books. I guess that makes me a geek, but so be it.Maybe your teachers did not teach you in a manner that would encourage you to go one.Maybe I was lucky and had good teachers. Who can say.
