why do our own friends speak bad about us in back of us

i dont know guys and gals y do pple speak bad about their own friends behind them this is not at all good.they dont even beleive what we speak or what we say.if suppose i am a scholar that is i bring good marks than my friend and when he will ask me what did i study till now and if i say something which he thinks is less then my capability then he will go on speaking bad about us and pass this message in this world even the people who are good have no value.

i wouldn't think that those type of person can't be considered friend at all. they are jelous and envious that's why they speak behind your back. i do know some people like that and does that to me, i considered them friend before but finding that they are gossiping about me i decided to back off and move away from them. i have not have any gutts to confront them though, i guess i will never have.
