What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions? What does your family do on Thanksgiving?

Three days before Thanksgiving, I put up our Christmas tree and the next day, we leave. We drive 16 hours one way to attend a family reunion every Thanksgiving. We have a restaurant banquet room reserved. We all get to eat, visit, exchange early Christmas gifts (since many live out of town/state) and then go on our merry ways. So, with no preparation and no clean up, we all get to catch up on the events of the past year and enjoy the holiday in total relaxation.

That sounds nice. No left overs to have to eat for days and days and days and days either. LOL. My family goes to my mom's house and we all eat until we are sick and then she forces us to take tons of leftovers home with us.

LOL...I remember those days. We switched to a restaurant many years ago because the family was getting too large and mom was getting up in age...we felt all of it was too much work for her. I'm glad we do it this way now. We live the furthest away so it is just a lot less stressful for us to not have to help prepare or clean up....plus it allows us to catch up with everyone since we only make it home once a year due to the distance.

We pack up the kids and go to my Mom's. I make a second turkey dinner on the Sunday after when my step sons visit and so we can have left over turkey sandwiches.

We usually have a big family dinner, with aunts uncles, cousins, as many people who can make.

My entire family usually gets together at my parents house for a huge Thanksgiving dinner. We all cook parts of it to bring. There are usually 19 of us there. We have the turkey and all of the trimmings. Then after dinner the kids usually get coloring books and crayons (little ones get a small toy, like cars and trucks or a doll for the baby) and the adults all sit and play monopoly. I love Thanksgiving (doesn't hurt that I was born on Thanksgiving too).

My brothers and our families all go to my parents house. Sometimes my uncle and his wife and their families join us but not so much anymore. We have a big Thanksgiving meal and then sit around and just visit.
