I just spoke to my ssdi lawyer and he told me I needed to see this neurologist and have some kind of test done. Come to find out most of these doctors charge around 1300 for this test because the insurance will not pay for it. I need to get the test done, but how am I to come up with that type of money? ERGGGGG. The society of medicine sometimes just drives me crazy.

Do you have to pay the entire amount up front? Usually, they will let you pay a portion and then bill you. If you have to have this test done, I would think that they would allow you to only pay so much and then pay the bill a little each month. There was a discussion the other day about Cyber Begging. It was even on 20/20 a few weeks ago. Not that I could do something like that...but that is an option...I guess. I would hate to tell you to put it on a credit card....credit card companies love to charge an arm and a leg. Maybe tax return...if your getting something back that is.

Well we had t file chapter 7 in Dec. and so we have no credit cards and can not get a loan. ugh. They say I could pay half up front then make two other payments. I still think that is too much for me to pay, I mean it's either the rent or the half payment. You would think that since they know I can not work and trying to get ssdi, they would work with me, right? Nope. I will try to wear them down tho. Wish me luck

The hospital should have some sort of pay scale that you fall under and since you are told to have this done then they should be able to work with you on this. Some liason or something. Do you know what they are looking for? What does your doctor say? Hoping that this all works out for you.

You would think so, right? They (the doctor) knows it is for ssdi, knowing full well that I NEED to get the test done for it, and that I have no money. They seem to all be this way. I will have to call my lawyer to see what he says, see if I can work something out. Thank goodness I don't pay him anything uless I get the SSDI.

OMG that is a lot of money for a test, what ever they are going to test you with must be made of dimonds and gold. No wonder doctors are rich...good luck

Five years ago I was diagnosed to have a brain tumor it was more likely of pseudotumor cerebri literally means "false brain tumor." It is likely due to high pressure caused by the buildup or poor absorption of cerebrospinal fluid in the subarachnoid space surrounding the brain. It gave me a real shock in my life and a frequent visit to a specialist of neurology but here in our country we are cover and even if we are not the doctors fee here is not that expensive such as you have there I can have a heart attack with that price lol! I do hope for your immediate recovery and also you can find a neurologist that charge less than that 1.300 it so much but if it includes some test such as ultrasound and MRI then sure the cost is high but still it was too much.

It is true, the fact that medicine is not covered by public medicare in america and even OHIP in ontario canada does not cover everything. I have to pay extra for glasses and lenses and all the money comes out from my pocket. However so costly, I manage to get the money becuasue these things are necessary and I think we have no other choice but to comply and pay for our essential medicare.
