With a name like Michael, I've been called Mick or Mick for most of my life. However, back in the sixties a group of my colleagues and I were at a social movie night. An advertisement for Carnation Bear Brand Milk started just after interval with a bear coming over a hill. One of our female employees called, "hey, he's just like Mike." From that day on I got Yogi Bear, or simply Bear from my friends for many years. In fact recently, through the wouderful media of the internet, I was able to trace one of my closest friends from those days, and he responded by calling me BEAR, even though we haven't seen each other for about thirty years. Does anyone have an original story of how they got their nickname. I'd like you to share your story with us.

With the name Danelle, nicknames were limited. Usually they are Dani, Nellie (hate because it reminds me of Nellie Olsen from Little House on the Prarie),and Nells. However, my brother gave me a nickname of "Nunga" because he couldn't say my name when he was little....the name has stuck. It kind of drives me nuts, but hey that is family!

Is it only your family who call you "Nunga", or others too? I'm sure it wouldn't drive me nuts too!

Oh it started out just family, then because my brothers were EVIL growing up (and now sometimes lol) they tell everyone and someimes others call me it. My brother, who came up with the name now has taught his kids how to say it and call me it. It isn't that I am mad, it is a sibling pick on thing I guess. Gotta love family!

You'll be happy to know that "PANG" in Thai means expensive, or something valuable.

my family used to call me 'payat' - it means thin. when i was li'l, i was tall and thin so that's where and how they came up with payat. in my school they don't call me like that, they call me Joy, my second name. some of my friends 'abz' cause my last name is 'abe'.

Do you have a preference when it comes to nicknames? 'abz' sounds interesting.

I have a couple of nicknames as when I was working at the bank most people used to call me KG. K is the first letter in my first name and G is the first letter of my middle name. Not sure why they called me KG but they did for years after I started working there. Now some of the people I know call me Kenny from the saying "Who Killed Kenny?". LOL

KG was not very original, but Kenny has some originality. Incidently, what does the K stand for in your first name?

Haw can you be here ? Darn ! And I always said, Shh, don't talk loudly, there's spies everywhere. The one who hanged is my replacement.

Hey, you've just confirmed something I have thought all along, and that is that it wasn't Saddam the Americans had in custody, and eventually hanged, it was one of his many impersonators. Now I know! What's it worth to keep your secret? Call this blackmail if you like, but I need the money.
