Sore baby bottoms...

My poor little baby has always had the worse sore bottom. It has never really went away. I've changed diapers, put oinment on it, creams, anything I can think of. But still his poor bottom is red and sore. It has to hurt. Today it drew blood. I know hes miserable. Any ideas about what to do? I'm at my wits end, nothing I've tried has worked and I can't keep letting him be miserable.

I read all the replies to your topic, and none have recommended Lotrimin AF, it's an anti-fungal used for athlete's foot. It work's right away. My son's rash was so bad, he was even bleeding. I called his triage and was surprised when they told me to try that. I bought the cream reluctanly and put it on, I was so surprised when it worked. If this doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Thanks, girls from my pregnancy board have told me to use this... Desitin night time worked, but I will buy some Lotrimin just in case anything else happens.

Hi! My daughter had this and the best thing I did was to leave of her nappy sorry diaper as much as I could do get as much air to it to heal it up - Sudacream is good but I'm not sure whether you can get it in the US! Good luck with him!

I know this may sound weird but try cornstartch. I run a daycare business and I have had many cases of diaper rash and ususally cornstarch will clear it up in just a couple of days. Also if there are times during the day where the diaper can come off and stay off for awhile that may help also. Good luck and let me know how it goes. I know how hard it is when you can't help your baby when you know they are hurting.

My daughter also had the same problem as your son when she was young, but perhaps not as serious. What helped her was Desitin. The nappy rash normally cleared up after a couple of days. The other thing you could do is air your son's bottom as much as possible and consider switching to cloth nappies instead of using disposables. Hope he gets well soon :)

My son and daughters bottom would get that way and I usually use Balmex or The night time Desitin cream. You have probably tried that.I also used vaseline on the bottom. Its took like a day or 2 to go away .If it still is doing that then you might have to take the child to the doctor to see what is wrong. If your baby that is drinking juice my son and daughter when they ate pinapples or certain citrusy stuff whether is be fruit or juice it would also cuase their bottoms to break out so when they got sore bottoms I had to just cut that stuff out for a day or two.

He has been to the doctors and he just said to switch to a higher end diaper. So we did and it cleared up for a while. I hope I don't have to switch again. I've tried Balmex, Desitin, all that.

Try bagbalm, my wife and I used it on our oldest son when his bottom was sore. You can find it at most farm stores. It was designed for cow udders and bags but it totally safe for humans.

I read through the other responses and didn't see anyone recommend Ammens powder. It is normally used as a foot powder and is supposed to be anti-fungal as well. I've used it with Desitin on both my daughters when they had a rash that wouldn't clear up, and its worked very well.

If you go to a Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Target its usually in the pharmacy area with the foot care products; stuff like the gel inserts for your shoes and such.

Sounds like my son. I would try a cream, it might work for a day, then it wouldn't work at all. I tried everything! He'd get bleeding nasty rashes, sores, it's be red. I felt so bad for him! Then a friend suggested cloth diapers. I thought she was nuts, but then my mother said I'd get rashey in disposables too, she used them on trips, but back then it was too expensive. So I also had to go into cloth as a baby. The skin can't breathe too well in disposables, probably gross, but think about wearing maxipads 24/7, that just sounds miserable right? If you check out www.diaperpin.com or www.diaperjungle.com there are lots of articles on cloth diapering, and it has reviews and directories on different diapers. It is expensive to start up, but in the end you will save money! I wish you the best of luck!

I have looked into it and am interested. The problem is the starting cost. I would not be able to come up with enough money to start.

if you go with prefolds and bummis covers, it's real cheap. Also, there is a forum where you can buy used ones off other mothers, if that's okay with you. I've done that when my son had a growth spurt, I washed them first of course! there are also some on ebay.
