Sleeping with a partner - which side of the Bed

Which side of the bed do you sleep? Is it the side closest to the Door? I was reading this Book and it said that males will sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door... And when I thought about it my partner so does.... When we used to be downstairs when we first moved in (we were still finishing off the house) he sleeped on the right side which was closest to the door and then when we moved upstairs he sleeped on the Left side which was closest to the door. Also when we stay at a Hotel he does the same thing... I thought it was amazing.... They say it is a males instict to protect the woman from harm(intruder) but they say if you asked a man why they would say because it is a quick getaway from the woman.... What are your thoughts? Do you find this True?

I always sleep on the inside, away from the door. So it's true for me!

I don't think all of the men out will chose to sleep at the side that closest to the door. But, i'm also think that they want to protect the women from intruder because the intruder must go through them first. Men are invented to love and protect women right?

I sleep on the side furthest from the door. I've just always slept on the right side of the bed, can't explain why. Even whern I sleep on my own I tend to gravitate to the far right side of the bed...taking all the covers with me in the process

i dont mind if my side is closer or not to the door or the window...i usually sleep on the right side of bed no matter how the room is...the reason is that i like to sleep sided to that side of bed, and if i sleep on the left side of the bed i would have my head over the partners back, and i like to sleep freely.

thats a funny question. it is amazing how you get used to one side of the bed. i always sleep to my husbands left. don't know why-just started out that way and 25 years later, we still sleep that way. funny.

I think it is an instinct thing. When I walk down the street with someone I always walk the road side. So I guess it's the same thing.

Your book is right on the money. My hubs is the same way, totally. Unfortunately, his side is the warm side and I'm by the window--ironic thing is, he sweats & I freeze. Anyhoo, I whine and he insists he is sleeping by the door so he can protect me in case of robbers. When we move the bedroom furniture around, he will swap me sides to be closest to the door. To answer your question, yes, it's true.

It is so true I think in many aspects I never really thought about it until I read it and it was like yeah that is true, even when I asked my partner he said to protect you... I thought that was sweet....

What if you have a bedroom with a door on each side? Does that mean you're both guys? ;)

may i know why is the door relevant in the position in which you two sleep? just trying to figure out why so many people have the door in count in order to decide where they sleep. thank you

haha babystar.. Lighteningstrike I read in a book that generally a male will sleep closest to the door as a internatal instinct to defend. I"m seeing how people do sleep and respond to this thought....

Wow that is actually true! I always have to sleep on the wall side and my man sleep on the outside- near the door.

This is true. I thought about all of the places we have slept and my husband has always slept closest to the door. I think that is strange. I have never noticed that before. I asked him why he slept where he did and he said he had no idea. The funny part is it wasn't always the same side (like always on the left or right).

yes i agree to this alot. because most probably door is the way to enter and exit. if a robber come in front main door he also walk in roon from the only door and can link to more rooms after walking out. when you want to protect someone you will automatically sleep closer to the door. normally with my boyfriend he will want to sleep closer to the door because i am afraid as well actually. but when i am with my younger sister i will sleep closer to door. this let her sleep more better at night as another side is the wall. she will feel very safe. this is normal people reaction even in sleep. while sleep our brain also know where we are and how we sleep is react like when you cannot sleep well then you know.

Well it certainly isn't true in my relationship. I sleep on the side closer to the door. It wasn't like I insisted upon this side, it was his idea. I think it is because his preference is for the right side of the bed no matter what it's close to. Even when wwe go t a hotel, he wants to sleep on the right side of the bed. Strange how that happens.

My husband always sleeps on the right side of the bed, in every house we've lived in he makes sure that the right side is closest to the door... I've never really thought of it before though. After a man came in and tried to take our baby from our room, I'm glad he was closest to the door!

oh How scarey to have someone come into your House / room and try and take your child, that is bad.

I've always slept on the bed closest to the door I suppose its the old protection thing, but now we live in a bungalow I'm at a loss as to which side to sleep coz an intruder could possibly come though the window which is the other side of the bed....!! But they have got to get pass our little Jack Russell first!!

I wonder what this syas about me because I'm a woman and I sleep closest to the door. That's interesting. I can't remember but I think I was the one that picked the side of the bed I wanted to be on. I think because it's closest to the bathroom and I always have to go in the middle of the night.

That would be a good reason but maybe you feel very safe there??? or you are the defender???
