JK Rowling was concered that after she was gone that someone would try to write about Harry. If she kills him off no one can come behind her and try to make money off of a character she loves so deeply. Even Stephen King begged her not to kill Harry, and this is the man who lives to kill off characters. She said she had written the end of Harry's story before she ever wrote the beginning, but that doesn't mean his fate is set in stone. Hopefully she changed her mind, just in case have the tissues handy.

I can't picture her killing off Harry. The fans would have a fit and it would kill her sales in both books and movies. As soon as one person reads that he is killed word would spread and many wouldn't read the book or recommend anyone else to, thus killing future book sales for next generations. Then you have the movies. If Harry Potter is killed off people won't want to see them or buy them once they come to DVD. It's the worst thing she could do if she wants to keep her fans and to continue to make money off the series.

Jk Rowling doesnt have to kill harry in order to stop anybody else writing her characters. She wont do any gud that way. Its not anymore a matter of harry potter or snape or lord voldemort. Have a look at the no of fan fiction already flourishing on www.harrypotterfanfiction.com . She will have to kill each and every wizard in the world that she has created. If she kills Harry, there are still all the other characters. What about Snape, Hermoine (the brightest witch of the century. There gonna be a wonder witch series on her), and the Weasley Twins and Ron and Ginny and Malfoy. She is helpless. She wont kill Harry bcoz that would never go anywhere close to stopping people from taking her charcters from her. She has only one choice. Just destroy the purpose. Make it a cinderella story. Harry's survival depends upon Voldemort. If Voldemort is gone and gone means completely gone, then theres only the famous harry. The Boy who lived was how it all started and that will exactly be how it will end. Jkr is not afraid of anybody stealing Harry from her. It would be like someone nowadays proclaiming WAR or something. Who cares, Harry is already stolen many times before. What difference does it make.

I don't think jkr will kill Harry in book7. I would like to think that even if jkr doesn't make anymore HP books, i can still use my imagination to picture Harry in new adventures with his friends.

Rowling is not going to kill off Harry. She has confirmed on her site multiple times that all 3 main characters will survive the end of the book... but that isn't to say that side characters won't die... unless she decides to throw everyone for a loop and actually does have them die... but as far as I know from her official site (that she maintains herself) harry, hermione, and ron will survive.
