It's very rare that a fiction book makes me laugh out loud, but once in a while I find a book that is quite humorous. A few that come to mind are: Skipping Christmas by John Grisham (the book is much better than the movie) Heartburn by Nora Ephron (this is from the 80's) The Locklear Letters by Michael Kun (a tad dark, about a guy obessed with Heather Locklear) What books make you laugh?

Most of the books by Christopher Moore make me litteraly laugh out loud. The funniest one I have read so far is "The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove".

Erma Bombeck's If Life is a Bowl of Cherries.... was funny as well. More tongue in check on real life happenings. And I did enjoy Skipping Christmas...a different type of work for him. Jame Herriot (sp) has alot of humor in his books as well. Sad parts too, but the antics of some of the animals is hilarious.

Anything by Terry Pratchett, I read and re-read his Disworld series constantly, except the science of discworld series as they are a little about our world too and not as good for me although very interesting.

The book that made me laugh the most is The good soldier Svejk by Jaroslav Hazek. The story is about an Czech soldier in the first world war. The story is hilarious. It really shows that one has to be either brave or utterly stupid to stay alive in the battle field. It is my favorite book as well.

I adore funny books, but the ones that come to mind that made me laugh out loud are the following: Bridget Jones Good Omens Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Eats, Shoot, and Leaves (yes it's a book about grammer, but man is it funny) Xanth novels (because I like puns) pretty much anything by Terry Prachett The Goblin Companion

You mentioned the book "Heartburn". It is my favorite book and movie of all time. Did you know that was loosely based on her (Nora Ephron's) life? In real life, she was married to one of the guys who broke Watergate. Anyway, she has another book out that is funny to us older gals: "I Feel Bad About My Neck". She is hilarious. Sad part about her best friend in it, but primarily it is funny. I read it in one day.

The first name that comes to my mind when I saw your question is James Herriot's books. He is a veterinary surgeon and his books are about his experiences with people and their animals. He isn't afraid to relate the funny things, silly things he faces or which happens to him as he treats animals and relates to their owners, mainly farmers, and he writes in such a way that my eyes starts twinkling and my lips crinkle into a smile. Once I even laughed until tears ran down my cheeks, and no, I am not exaggerating. So far, only this author's books have done that.
