Ever had to install WINDOWS OS on a computer before?

My mother brightly dobbed me into her brother, saying that on the weekend I would install windows on his pc for him. He has just brought a new pc and he has waited on his Grandson to come over (who lives around the corner from him) to do it for almost a month now, who just won't go and do it it appears. Needless to say I've never had to do this before. Whenever I've brought a PC it has already come preloaded with Windows on it. So, although I plan to google it tomorrow night after work (when I have more time), just looking for anyone's opinions on ease and how long I should expect it to take me. Any words of wisdom from past experience? Is it as simple as I'm hoping (just like most programs, pop in a disk click a couple of buttons and Bob's your Uncle?

I always wanted an Uncle Bob *laughs* ... personally when i've had to do it i've just turned the machine on and stuck the disk in ... it seems to know what it's doing and loads it up. Hopefully your PC will be the same and will be quick and easy!! [at least if you get stuck you can post here and someone will probably help you out quickly!]

Thanks for your response. He's planning on bringing it all over here (rather than us go there), which seems stupid to me, but anyway. I will definetly be having my laptop set up wherever it is I decide there is room to actually set up another pc, for easy net access incase I run across problems. Which knowing my luck, and his, there will be something weird about is pc. I can just feel it now. *hahA*

Oh gee, I can't tell you how many times I've installed Winblows. Sometimes by choice, sometimes not. If you're installing bare bones XP (pre-service pack 1), it takes all frickin' day. If you're lucky enough to have an XP disc with service pack 1 on it, it shouldn't be so bad. Service pack 2 would be ideal. Of course, if it's a new computer, you'll most likely be installing Vista and I haven't installed Vista yet, so I'd have no clue. LOL It shouldn't be too hard, though. Things are pretty self-explanatory. Just follow the directions! But be sure to read them CAREFULLY!
