Will you be celebrating - Chinese New Year on 18 February - The Year of the Pig?

Chinese New Year - Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the First Moon of the lunar calendar—based on the cycles of the moon. The 15th day of the first month of the Lunar year was reserved for the Lantern Festival.
Multicolored paper lanterns were made in the likeness of butterflies, dragons, birds, dragonflies, and many other animals, along with the more common red, spherical lanterns.

That's why were are similiar Chriss! I was also born in the year of the pig, 1971 was the year of the pig, as was 1983, 1995 and 2007. I do recognize the chinese new year and I hope that this year will be a better year for me, a turning point a year that will have great insignificance for me, it's about time my luck changed. So here's to the pig! I do believe it memory serves me that the pig was the most cherished animal because he had small feet and although it took him ages to walk he still turned up with the other 11 animals.

D'oh I meant significance, not insignificance!!! What starsign are you Chriss? I am Taurean. Every animal has a 12 year cycle, so after this year the next time the pig will be celebrated is 2019!!!

I also wanted to add that i just looked further into the links you posted, and I am not only a rabbit, but a 'wood rabbit', having been born in 1975. This description fits me even closer than the regular description for ones born under the sign of the rabbit: Wood Rabbits tend to be the least bit indecisive. This is probably due to their always wanting to play the peacemaker and not wanting to hurt other people’s feelings. Even just that first part is to me a T, lol! ^_^ And it goes on along those lines, describing me quite well! This is really cool ^_^

We attended a Chinese New Year's party at the invite of friends that owned a local Chinese restaurant. The traditional foods were wonderful. My children were a little apprehensive to try to the food. The octupus tentacle soup was not one that the kids tried. For me it was an opportunity to try foods I have never eaten before. The snails, octupus and other dishes were wonderful. It was a joy to share this holiday with them.

Chinese characters - Here's a logo they emailed to everyone after the last Chinese New Year's party we attended. Ofcourse I don't know what it means!
I love the Chinese holidays. They are filled with family, warmth, customs and brightly lit celebrations. My daughter is 3 and she recently had the octopus soup (although she only had 1 bite!)

Yes every year we welcome the chinese new year by going to chinese temples and offering food. We even have a fortune teller in the temple to tell us what's in it for us these year. As for me, i'm year of the snake and so i was warned to be careful especially with my health. Year of the pig is not a good partner for me and so my mom has given me some charms to contradict some bad elements.

Yes, being born of chinese parentage, Chinese new year is important as like celebrating Christmas. We will watch dragon dance roaming around our nearby chinese restaurants. I always gathered all my siblings and their respective families here in my house and have get together dinner. I also gave this "ampaw", a small red envelope with money inside and pass on to my children, nieces and nephews. I was also under the sign of pig and a scorpion. Any nice readings for me...

More Filipinos now are assimilating Chinese customs and traditions here in the Philippines so I might celebrate the Chinese New Year too because we're happy to celebrate it with our Chinese brethren here in the country.
