I have a pareket and her beek has grown quite long, it almost is touching her chest. She has a cuddle bone wich I thought was suposed to stop this frm hapening. Have you ever had this happen to your bird? Do you file or clip the beek? I dont know what to do and the local vets ofice doesnt deal with this. Can anyone help?

Cover the birds eyes with a washcloth and use small nail clippers. Just don't trim it too short. It should all work out fine!

I know it's been a couple of weeks since you posted this but I am real curious to see if everything turned out okay with your birdy"s beak.I had heard that unless you are an expert, beak trimming should be left to a vet.Hope she is okay!

I finally found a vet that does it but I also got her some new perches and she did it herself, she seems to like plastic over wood ! Thanks for you concern !

I was glad to read that you finally found a vet that would do that for you. Anyone who owns a bird, should have an avian vet to go to. They are trained to deal with birds and can help. Bird owners should establish themselves with an avian vet. In the case of an emergency, most reguary vets would not know what to do, and you won't have much time to get it treated..

Quite often birds beaks can become over grown. You can file or clip the beaks down. If you are worried about clipping the beak too short (which will lead to bleeding) then you would be better to file the back down if your bird will allow you to do this. If you do decide to clip and cut to short so the beak bleeds, then you will need to use bicarbonate of soda on the beak to stop the bleeding
