Once a month the pet should be bathed, that's good enough. Frequent bathing will cause skin diseases, dander etc.. Too less bathing means they are going to stink like an old pair of socks!.

My dog gets dirty very easily. He has long, wavy, course-ish hair that picks up dirt and grime, and he loves to play outside. However, I still don't bathe him more than once every two weeks. Dogs have natural essential oils in their skin, and shampooing often can take this away and cause skin problems. I love my dirty dog!

Dogs usually should not be bathed more than once a week. Especially if your dog's breed or dog's skin is proned to getting dried out. I only bathe my pup once a month. He doesn't get too stinky, so I see no other reason to. It also depends on your dog's lifestyle. He goes to the groomer only once every few months when his nails get too long for me to cut myself.

I very rarely bathe my pets unless they accidentally get into something which stinks. Dogs and cats are quite capable of keeping themselves clean so it's not something I do that often. I have enough with trying to keep up on making sure my three children stay clean than to worry about the animals, lol. If they stink, they'll get thrown in the tub, but other than that, I leave their cleanliness to themselves.
