I was chatting with my youngest granddaughter ( she is 12) and we were laughing about the names her dad ( my son) used to call things, One of the daft names was toose, he couldn't say soup . well to this day my hubby wil ask me if I am going to make a pot of toose, There are so many things in our house have daft names, but then we all are a wee bit daft in our home lol

This will give you an idea of how silly I was when I was younger (come to think of it, I still am! lol). My dad would make this concoction for dinner that he called "Tamale Jazz". It was one of those dishes where you had to look and make sure the kitchen sink didn't get put in the mixture too. Every time I would try to say it, it came out "molly tajazz". It just kinda stuck, and we call it that to this very day.

When I was achild my mum told me I used to call a pencil a deedaw. I used to call my dad's mum, my grandmother, graggy! She was highly amused at the time, mum said she told me not to call her that, but graggy, or grandmother said leave him he's ok! Whenever our dog we had wanted to go outside I used to say Bimbo wants to go gilly-gilly, where I got that name from I do not know! Talk about silly!

Hi Weemam, yes it is funny isn't it that we call all different names what we want to call them I have some in my family to as my father when I was young used to call mashed potatoes apple pound doubty and so from then on I would say what's for dinner dad and this is what he would say. So there must of been a wee bit of daft in my home as well.

Definitely. It's good to give things silly names since it bonds people together socially when this is done, like an inside joke. Also, it becomes an easy way to remember what is being said or what is talked about.

My kids used to call their nans wig a "hair hat" My dad always called the toilet "The elephant house". I don't know why because I never found one in there. Also, if anyone broke wind he would say "Who's popped off", this still makes me chuckle. On a ruder note though, if my partner decides to walk around in the altogether, I will politely ask him to put away "his Kubla Khans". I don't know where this saying came from. lol
