Spare the rod, spoil the child and they reside in prison

Why have juvenile offenders increased over the past 20 years. In my opinion the day the government decided to take the rights of parents to discipline their kids that is when our children went to hell. Except for the chosen few who refused to let their kids run amuck. What do you think?

lindalinda I hate to differ with you but I grew up with spanking as a consequence for my actions and I turned out just fine. You are not going to convince me for a minute that simply spanking a child scars them for life. give me a break.

I beg to differ with you. I don't think the Government took away the right to discipline children at all. Corporal punishment is so wrong. There are so many ways to punish children when the misbehave. Take away a toy, send them to their room, haul their behind to a store if they stole something and make them pay and apologize, take away their cellphone, their internet access, ground them and more. If you look at wife beaters and criminals in prison most of them suffered corporal punishment. Myself, I spanked my children a few times when they were young and I regret it to this day. Thank heavens, they grew up to be loving, decent, and caring individuals despite it.

I totally agree. There is a huge line between disciplining your child and abusing your child. No one should be abused - not men, not woman and not children. But I strongly agree that discipline is most definitely necessary in raising Godly, respectful, law abiding children that are going to lead in our future. There are different forms of discipline and I am not saying that spanking is the best or should be the one that is mainly used I am saying that it should definitely be used as one of the options if all else fails.

Personally, I think that parents have lost their grips on their children. When we were growing up, we feared my parents. They were the ultimate authority, and we did just as we were told. Now, I see kids openly swearing at their parents in public, and they do nothing. These kids don't see discipline in their homes. Then, they run amuck and start doing illegal things. This is only my opinion, though.
