Extended Breastfeeding

I was wondering what your thoughts were as far as extended breastfeeding goes. Do you think that breastfeeding should be baby led and baby weaned? Or do you think the mother should step in and make that decision for her and her baby? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics it is recommended to breastfeed till the first year, then as long as it is mutually desired between mother and baby. I feel it should be a baby led wean. Although if a mother is not interested in breastfeeding as long as the baby, then there could be some resentments. Just a question I have been thinking about.
