Favorite non-Bond Connery role?

We all know that Sean Connery is the original (and to me, best) James Bond, but he's also appeared in many other films, including The Russia House, The Hunt for Red October, Just Cause, The Man Who Would Be King, A Bridge Too Far, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. My personal non-Bond favorite roles (it's a tie) are of Connery as Henry Jones, Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Capt. First Rank Marko Ramius in The Hunt for Red October.

I liked him in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, released in 2003, he played Allan Quatermain and it is based around World War 1 and he does battle with a collection of unlikely characters against their common enemy the Fantom. Brilliant storyline and brilliant casting and Sean is excellent as the starring role, a truly great film which I have seen many times.

I have to agree that Sean Connery was, and always will be the best James Bond. I don't think they could ever find another Bond who could even come close. Aside from his Bond roles though, I would have to say that Henry Jones, Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade would have to be my favorite. To be honest though, I don't recall seeing any that I didn't like.

Yay for Henry Jones, Sr. Connery was the perfect "dad" to Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones. The interplay between the two actors was witty and very believable.

Looking at the list of movies he made, First Knight is one of my favorites but I hardly remember his character in that one. Otherwise Indiana Jones series was great and I see now they are coming out with another in 2008! That ought to be interesting.

I wonder what the plot of Indy 4 is going to be about. It's hard to believe that it's been almost 18 years since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was released in theaters. Time sure flies on!

Just Cause is a really good one, but I also was a pretty big fan of Finding Forester.

I hate to admit this, being a movie reviewer of sorts, but I've never seen either. Heard they were pretty good, though.

I also agree that he was the best Bond. I can't think of role he's played that I didn't like - he gives an excellent performance every time! I would have to pick between three of his films: Indiana Jones, The Rock and Rising Sun. I think his character as John Mason, ex-SAS and ex-con is probably my favourite. Wow hard question, thanks!

Glad you participated. I haven't seen The Rock in its entirety, but the parts that I have watched are pretty riveting, especially when Connery is on screen.

Sean Connery is fantastic isn't he, whatever role he plays in the film, it would be difficult narrowing it down to one, but I would have to say the film that sticks out in my mind was when he played Allan Quartermain in The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, fantastic film which I've seen so many times!

There are so many things I could choose. He was terrific in "The Rock" as well, even if the movie was a bit contrived. I think I agree about Henry Jones Sr. from Indiana Jones. Next to James Bond, I think that is his most memorable.

Any movie directed by Michael Bay is contrived to some degree. It's one of the true constants of the universe. Chalk another vote for Indy's dad!

sean connery is the best ever james bond, as you are asking about other role he played. I like him in the film "The league of extraordinary gentlemen", the role was preety good at his old age.
