It seems like I hear more and more every year about school bus accidents. I can recall 2 serious school bus accidents last year in which students were seriously injured. I know that school districts across the country have limited budgets. Shouldn't transporting children to and from
school safely become a priority? Share your thoughts..shouldn't schoolbuses have seat belts?

I have never understood why they dont. We have a buckle up law and if you don't buckle you or your kids up the officer will stop you and give you a ticket. But school buses don't have the seat belts, the kids get up and down while it is driving. They need to make it to where the buses have seat belts, so the kids will sit still and there wont be the distractions to the bus drivers and the kids wont go flying out the window when the bus gets into an accident.

I definitely a agree, we had an accident a few years back where the bus slid off the road and into a house.
I am not sure why we don't and I think until it becomes a law nothing will happen.
I think they use the total number of miles traveled and the number of accidents and then figure it is not worth the cost. I am sure that this is the bottom line - the cost of installing the seat belts.
Even if they just started by putting them in the new buses, eventually it would be in all of the buses.

I definitely think school buses should have seatbelts. I don't understand why they haven't put them in there yet. I guess it's a money thing because education seems to be the thing that is cut first all the time. They really need to get the seatbelts installed though. I really thinkg it's unsafe.

I just said this same thing to someone yesterday when I saw some kids standing up while the bus was in motion. I don't understand why they don't have seat belts. +

I remember hanging upside down in my car as it rolled all the way over and thinking "thank God I have my seatbelt on" I would not have walked away as I did from that accident had I not been wearing a seatbelt. I firmly believe all school buses should have seatbelts.

It should definitely be a priority. I do not understand why we have to wear our seatbelts in the car but there are no belts on a bus that transports our children, our future, to and from school every day. It makes no sense to me. Not that I'm arguing the seatbelt law, I agree with it a hundred percent, but I think it should be the law for ALL vehicles not just some.
