I am planning to download stuffs from the internet. I have heard that one has to take lots of precautions as there are many security risks. What do you do to prevent attacks when you download stuffs? Especially, when you download large files that seems to take umpteen hours? Share your experiences and methods so that all of us can learn too.

see first of all check that your antivirus is updated then check that the file which you are downloading is of correct format , like .msi or .exe or any ! then after downloading just have antivirus scan once ! always download software or things from reputed site or alike ! if you install good antivirus and follow the things ! you will not face any problems ! then also ! go with secure sites to download the stuff !

I am now using System Mechanic Kaspersky Antivirus. It does scan all incoming documents online and offline. Sometimes, I want to download some so called good softwares but I am not sure if the server where it comes from is ok or not. How does one really know more in detail concerning this?
