As we grow older and live our lives, we learn from our mistakes and people around us. What has been the most impportant life lesson you have learned so far? And how has this affected your life?

The School of Hard Knocks - DVD cover for the animated video entitled Arthur's School of Hard Knocks.
The most important life lesson I learned was from a concert by Tom Lehrer who said, "Life is like a sewer, you get out of it what you put into it." For this reason I have always been a very positive person and giving more than receiving. Nothing was ever handed to me on a silver platter and everything that I achieved in my long life has been through determination, loving my work and graduating from the School of Hard Knocks.

I don't know if I would consider this a life lesson or not, but the things that have given me the most peace in the last few years are the two things that I believe with all of my heart now - one, that everything in life happens for a reason, and two, that everything that happens in life is a lesson that we are meant to learn or something that we have to go through in order to grow, whether the experience seems good or bad at the time. Those things give me a major amount of peace, and I have truly become a calmer and happier person since those beliefs have come into my life.
