I don't think either would be much fun!!! They are BOTH extremely destructive. With a hurricane you usually have time to evacuate to a safer area. Tornadoes tend to come out of nowhere so little chance of evacuating, & their damage seems to be erratic. It may destroy 3 blocks then jump a half mile before touching down again. Of course, if a tornado went through NYC it could cause HUGE destruction & loss of life. However, tornadoes seldom go through cities. I think Atlanta, Nashville & Dallas are the only 3 I have heard of in my lifetime. The loss of life was minimal. With hurricanes, they cover a HUGE area. It seems like Ike expanded 200 miles in every direction from the eye. 400 miles is a lot of coastline being covered. The loss of life is usually quite large. I hope to never have to deal with either first hand, but in saying all this it seems like it's almost like buying a lottery ticket. It seems to me the odds are with you a little better with a tornado than a hurricane. According to the Weather Channel, if a hurricane comes up the east coast & lines up just right, NYC is history. Whereas Florida is used to hurricanes & fears tornadoes. I was living in South Carolina when Hugo hit. He did wind damage over 400 miles inland. However, that is extremely unusual. My suggestion is just don't live in a house right on the beach anywhere. Living in a valley will usually help protect from tornadoes also. I had one jump my house once. I lived between 2 pretty steep hills. It came up one hill then jumped to the other hill before continuing its path. I'm praying that you NEVER have to deal with either!!!

Yes they both cause a lot of damage and hurricanes appear to leave behind more of a mess but watching a "twister" scares me more. Your very lucky that it skipped over your house, were you in there at the time?

Yes, I was home at the time. The scary part was I never knew what was happening. I heard nothing & it was at night & was already dark. My neighbors were talking about it the next day. They said it wasn't the first time that had happened. I was scared after the fact; but, like I said, had NO clue it was happening at the time!!! I agree that tornadoes look much more menacing than a hurricane

i think the hurricane is worst because it destroys everything in a city or a whole state,,,,but a twister just destroys stuff at its path,,not the whole state or city.....how are you my friend???

I thought they were the same initially, just different by how they are called. But after I did some reading, seems like they are different. Hurricane should be more destructive. I think both of them are scary and we don't really want any of them, don't we? Recently, due to the global warming effect, they are getting worse.

They both appear to be very scary. I live in an area where they don't have either so I don't know first hand the horror and destruction they cause.

That's good. If possible, we should live in area free of these scary nature phenomena. Due to global warming effect, the world climate pattern is changing. More frequent and more violent storm are forming every year. We need to try our best to reduce the global warming gas exhaust. This includes cut down our product consumption and long distance activity.

I think it's a toss up. Both can be lethal. I wouldn't want to caught in either one.

I think hurricane is much more serious. As I have seen the hurricane damages from TV news and usually it will also bring the serious rain. Therefore, its damage is bigger. Besides, it seems it lasts a longer time than twister.
I love China

Hi my friend, I think your right hurricanes do appear to do more damage but when I see a "Twister" on tv it scares me more. I am in an area where we don't get either (grateful for that) so I don't know first hand the horror these two cause. Thanks for your response.

I guess it all depends on the size of the Twister & Hurricane. Sometimes a Twister can actually be worse then the Hurricane. I believe the F5 is the most dangerous Twister I have ever been through. It was scary.
I never been through a Hurricane though, but I have seen the damage they can do as well.
I think both are up there & both very dangerous. I can't really say what one is worse though.... maybe a Hurricane... depending on how big it is.

I agree it probably depends on the size of it, I know when I see those "Twister" movies they are scary. Thanks for your reply.
