Online Communities, Online Datings, etc

We have been seeing many online communities, online dating websites connecting people through the networks in similar fields or interests. What do you feel of such communities or websites. Did you benefit or meet old or néw friends through such websites like Orkut, Hi5, etc.
I have not been in all such communities but through Orkut I have meet most of my old friends whom I could not meet after my schooling or college.
Whats your opinion on such websites?

there is nothing wrong with online communities. i have not joined any of the sites you've mentioned though. i have friends who have been members of this site. I've tried joining other sites like this. I had fun by doing so. i not only meet my old friends but get to find new friends as well, which is really nice.
