So. Using the fabulous recipe of a lushie on the other forum, I had made myself some homemade Buffy. It worked quite well, except because I was a bit overenthusiastic with the scrubby stuff, it has a tendancy to fall apart, so I don't use it every day. I store it in the mold I made it in, which is a plastic yogurt-type container. So I decided to use it today. I took it down to the shower with me and midway through my shower went to take it out of the thinger. The bottom was COVERED in fuzzy, orange and green mold!!! ICKICKICK!!! What lush products have you had mold on you???

When they made Flotsom soap in the first or second discon round on the IF, they were REALLY, REALLY fresh. I mean...SO fresh...I even cured them for a couple of weeks (yes, a couple of weeks!) before wrapping them up and putting them in my storage tubs...and they STILL grew some white, fuzzy mold. I mean, not A LOT, just a little bit in the valleys and natural bumps, but it was definitely mold because it was fuzzy and looked like lint. The smell of the soap wasn't worth it! I rubbed the mold off, and then sold the 1 and 1/2 bars I had left for cheap! lol!

lol! I guess freshness can go too far! I'm afraid of a soap call Flotsom, for some reason that creeps me out.

Oh, it LOOKED like ugly soap. There was sand and seaweed throughout, and it was sort of the color of white mud/wet sand. And it SMELLED vile. While curing, I would occasionally catch whiffs of the soap that reminded me of that wonderful beach smell...but when I actually USED it...:op ::shudder:: They discontinued that one for a REASON! lol!

I had a piece of heavenly bodies mold on me. green mold only but ... yah. wasn't pleasant. Lush was awesome though - they apparently had had a few problems with that product recently so they just asked me questions about how I'd been storing it, what happened etc, and then sent me another product as replacement! (I had the option of heavenly bodies again, but I decided to go with one of my necessities I was low on instead)

So far I have been lucky.. I haven't had anything grow mold. I did recently receive a bad Coolaulin from mail order. The thing was like cloudy water. I bought an off Olive Branch once. That shower gel smelled so bad I am still scared to try again with another one.

I saw that Buffy recipe. I should try making it myself one of these days. Do you remember a while back someone on the NA forums posted a hunk of something that had gotten covered in mold? And then, they had it "marry" someone's soap that had sprouted? I can't remember for the life of me who that was now... I've luckily never had something mold on me.

I totally remember that thread. There was a recent one too where someone said that the choc chips in their heavenly bodies grew "sweaters". I am still laughing about that. I really think it is the add on stuff that is what goes off (not the buttercream itself). I always scrape off the add on stuff and I have never had a buttercream go bad so far *Knock on wood*.

That was a temptation soap, and it was the funniest thread EVER. That mold was so weird, it was like hairy. They started a poll to decide what to name it, too. Ick.

I've luckily have never had a lush product go all icky on me, but I am DYING to try out the home-made buffy. once I get settled in with my hubby (we are moving in july) I plan on buying up a bunch of stuff and trying my hand at homemade bath stuff. i have a bunch of recipes and the longing to make a flying fox dupe that is so strong I can TASTE it. I want lotion, conditioner, body butter, flying fox scented buffy, etc. I WANT IT ALL!!!! No. I'm NOT addicted. My therapist says that is a negative word. Enabled is better. ;)

Luckily for me I have never encountered any moldy lush products, but then I use mine up fairly quick as I buy fresh and use fresh. However, my shower curtain is a different story. It is VERY moldy due to the amount of fresh products I use, and nothing will get it off. I think I'm going to invest in a shower screen instead.
