Ok I know most of yall are gonna think im insane but i gotta ask if this has ever happened and what yall did when it did cause it freaked me out yesterday .... Ok so what happen yesterday was I was going about my usual houshold routine and all ya know then the phone rang and when I looked at the caller ID it said it was ME calling LOL seriously it had the house # and our name on there !! Ok ill admit that for a second I did wonder if I was calling myself from the future to warn myself about somithing or atleast give the winning lotto #s for that night ya know who knows at this point , so while i tenitavly answered the phone i found it to be nothing but a recording for some guy trying to sell me sattelite service!! geesh! Boy was I miffed got all freeked out for nothing lol, kinda makes me wonder what the telemarters will think of next !! So what do ya do in this situation ?? ~M~

Although this is the first time that I have heard of them using your own phone number as a "from" message on the caller ID, I do think this may be helpful. Telemarketers use a computer to dial your number to see when is the best time for a human to call back and get ahold of you. If you answer the phone and there is noone on the line, its more than likely a computer calling to see if you answer. What you would want to do is press the # key like 5-6 times quickly. This spits your number out of their computer listing, and you will no longer recieve calls from this telemarketer. I learned of this about 2 months ago and have dramatically cut my telemarketer calls down. Hope this helps.

If you don't want to be bothered by telemarketers just go to www.donotcall.gov and register your phone number. You can also register your cell numbers. My hubby and I did this and all calls stopped within a month. Now if only I could quit getting sent junk faxes at work.....;)

That doesn't sound right, or legal. I think you should call your phone company and see what's going on. Because it sounds fraudulent. It's odd that it had your name and number.

Talk about cheating. I suspect its illegal for companies to do that. If not, it should be! I'd have a little chat with my service provider and see if they sold that company the rights to do that. However, some people will do anything to make a sale. Now you know, next time don't answer calls from the future.

he he you do have all the ingredients of a mystry story writer. its funny how far you went on seeing your own no. But you should have taken that company name and reported it to law authorities. Thats plain cheating. Dont tolerate that, else it will encourage them to do the same to other people. But I liked your thought in call from the future. I think I saw a similar concept in a movie, where a guy contact somebody in the future/past through his radio. Good Imagination buddy :).

We currently have satellite service. We have it so it pops up on the tv when the phoen rings. I've noticed sometimes if the caller id isn't cleared out, when the next person calls, it'll pop up with last person that called. It's happened before to me, showed my cell phone calling in. I'd been the last person to call, so that's what was showing. One time, I called home, and my husband didn't answer. He finally called me back, said it was my cell #, but someone else's name on it, some really out there name as well. And I'd had the number for several months. I guess they're just little glitches in the systems...

This is really a very critical situation an din this critical situation I would have informed the local telephone exchanga and then I would have consulted po;ice also because the way he ws trying to sell his things come under crime.

This is the example of the side effects of technological advancements. You can do two things probably as there will be stricter control on business organizations unlike in my country. One is to trace the number from where the call was actually made (probably from some telemarketing company)and request them not to call your number in future if you are not interested in there offers or line of product. And the other thing is not to panic and get ready for more surprises when RFIDs will be mass implemented.

Well first off, I agree with others, I don't think it is legal either. Contact someone to see exactly what can be done. Now let me get to what I would have done in that situation..lol. Remember that old urban legend about the babysitter that keeps getting calls telling her that he's going to get her and all that? Well she calls the operator (before the days of call display) and asks for assistance, so the operator tells her that she will trace the call and get back to her. Anyways, after a few more calls, the operator calls this girl back and tells her that she needs to leave the house because the calls are coming from the same house she is babysitting in...turns out the guy was upstairs in an office type thing. So therefore, I would've taken one look at my number calling me, thought of that urban legend and ran for the hills! LOL.

Do you have call divert from home to your mobile? I would query this with your service provider as you will have paid for the call being transfered.

So funny, your story about warning yourself about something in the future. My caller id no longer works so I don't have that option to figure out who calls. Lucky me. Can you be put on a do not call list if you desire?
• United States
10 Feb 07
no I cant put myself on the no call list cause I belong to some survey groups and they would not beable to call incase they have a survey for me over the phone, its not a big deal cause usually the telemarters #s come up as either and 800 # or even sattalite tv , so i dont answer the ones i really hate are the ones that come up unavailble and the first thing they say is please hold . .... HOLD geesh HELLO you called me call me back when you have time to talk LOL its just sooo rude :P ~M~

LOL!!! I wonder how that telemarketer managed to do that? What a nice way to fake out people into answering their phone, sheesh! At first I thought that you were going to say that you had accidentally left your cell phone somewhere and someone who had gotten ahold of it was calling you to let you know where your phone was. I'm pretty sure that just the other day I heard a joke or a story or something about someone who got a call from their own phone # and wondered what was going on til they realized that someone else had their phone *laugh* Anyway, I don't have caller ID at my home, so this hasn't happened to me, but it sure would have freaked me out for a second, too! ^_^
