When we decided to get our daughter a cell-phone we took a few things into consideration.~Her Safety
~Knowing where she is all of the time.
~Is she responsible enough not to lose, damage, or forget her phone.
When she was 11 years old we got her a phone, then she lost that one. We got her another one and she broke that one.
I would do it all over again, because she ended up standed a few times. She was supposed, but the friend was not there and no one was home. It was winter time, 12 degrees outside, and she was able to call us.
I have a big sense of relief when she has her phone, because she is able to call us. She has learned from her mistakes and is very responsible.

I think you should have taken the hint when she lost one and destroyed the other. She wasn't old enough to have one. And what was she doing out alone at that age any way? Children shouldn't be allowed more than a few blocks from home without their parent's dropping them off until at least 15.

My parents gave my lil bro's and sis' cellfones since they were 10, maybe one or two years after that or when they enter teenage years would be best, because they absolutely NEED a cellfone (like I did) and I don't know how I could live without it then, but I definitely can't live without it today

I dont' think we are going to get our child a cell until they are about 15 or 16. If they are going somewhere like the mall or shopping, then we will give them our phone so that they can call us.
I just do not feel children really need phones when they are young. Yes there is the safety thing and I understand that. However, they are expensive, and it gives them the excuse to be on the phone all the time. I lived with out a cell phone until I was in my 20's. Yes it is a different time now, butI really think a cell phone for a child is unnessisary.

there is no good age for that. if she got used to them in the house..it's ok to get her one so she could be in touch with you all the time
